Quote by Coach Dooley on Recruiting

While I don't expect TN to contend for anything this year, I do expect to see signs of impending success, and would expect us to be competitive with anyone on our schedule in year two under Dooley. Winning big immediately is not realistic, but neither is taking years to "build" the program. Other coaches have been hired and won quickly. With the right coach, the same can be done at TN.

If Dooley only manages a 15-20 ranked class this year, I'll give him a pass. Especially if he loads up on lineman. Next year needs to be top 10 for sure.

but it sounds like he is trying to set the bar low incase he does not do too well. however, that is the last thing we need. we need help and results, and we need em quick.

ONE LAST TIME! Don't you think his job depends on success? Do you NOT think he knows that he CANNOT turn this team to a WAC team...I'm sick of these "fans" who say things like that, as if they had a better approach to recruiting and coaching!

It means that the recruitment of players now starts with Sophs and Freshmen in HS... and no matter what you do, you can't turn the clock back.

They'll work hard to overcome that but the reality is that they'll be playing catch up until the Sophs and Freshmen they meet this year become Jrs and Srs.

This is nothing unlike what CLK would say or believe... and try to work around. Not an acceptance of a lower standard, just a recognition of reality. If he doesn't get good players in the next two years, he won't see the day when he's caught up.

+1 But it also depends on what we see on the field this year. I know we wont see a lot of wins, but you can tell when a team is going in the right direction.

Dooley just needs to get out there and work his butt off like the last staff did. He just needs to get it done and stop making excuses to cover his butt just in case things go south.

If you think that we are closer to the top of the SEC right now and not closer to the bottom, you need to temper your expectations for now. Even the last staff was going to be behind the 8-ball this year again, and they would have struggled to probably the same number of wins. All that talking they did last year and not having the results to back you up is something every team in the SEC that we were recruiting against would have used in their favor. We are in the Bottom 6 of the SEC right now, and in a couple of years we should be in the Top 6.

I really don't have high expectations for this team this year. We are only going to win at the most 4 games this year. But I do expect a coach who is making millions of dollars to do his job to the best of his ability and not make excuses.

Considering all the info you have to gather on recruits, schools, regions, and other things, he is exactly right. It will take 2 years to be fully caught up to other schools as far as relationships and information they have gathered before Dooley and Co. got to The Hill. Other schools have been focusing on this class for well over 2 years, so we are in catch up mode, and will be for sometime.

Sounds like a lot of excuses. Kiffin was on his way to a top 5 class his first full year in before he skated.

You must have not been paying attention since the evaluation period started 3 weeks ago. Dooley and his staff are all over the place. They are going just as hard on the road as the last staff.
