3 more chemo sessions. Appears to be cancer free, so we should be all done by August! :)

Agreed, especially re: the banks.

The general welfare bit is something to keep in mind, as well. And tax dollars spent should benefit all of us. But you need to be careful about how you draw that line, there's not only one way to do so.

That is the trick isn't it, deciding just where that line lines?

I will say this, all these Ivy league educated politicians that know better than the masses are not practicing prudence only self preservation when it comes to these entitlement programs, because basically it all comes down to an simple addition/subtraction math problem with a complex set of variables. The government tit has been offered, accepted, and is drying up and i am not sure our system will allow it to be re removed. You can't have more going out than coming in.

Anyone watch? I caught the last hour.

Paul had his crew there. The time is as right as ever for him. I thought Johnson might ride Paul's coattails but he was a bit disappointing.

Pawlenty was absolute dullsville. Cain was entertaining. Santorum scored some points but I think he's the wrong choice.

Still hoping Mitch Daniels enters.

My choice

You should take a closer look at who is the type of person on 'the government tit' how long they're on it and why theyre on it.

My guess is that 80% are on it because of choices they or their parents made.

Im not condemning the people who don't abuse entitlements just the system that arrived us here and the ones that do abuse it. and once the government does go broke they, we, can't help ANYONE. including those that are truly in need.

I heard a good speech on the local public station the other day by a woman who worked for the state for decades in a number of capacities. She made a great point that the way social programs are created is near-sighted in it's approach. Basically when subsidies or programs are made, they're there for a legitimate need at that time, but it is often assumed that program will always be needed and the same problem will always exist. It's basically a "there's a bug, squash it" approach.

80% of people are not on welfare programs because they chose to be. People will always need a safety net, and subsidies will always happen, that is a fact of life. What needs to change is the design of these programs so their operation and funding can be monitored and dynamic. A problem from 1995 is not exactly the same problem it is today. Otherwise it's just pissing away public dollars.

... 80% of people are not on welfare programs because they chose to be. ..

I said because of choices they made (i.e., dropped out of school so no education to fall back on, had child/children they could not afford, got involved in drugs/alcohol, etc.)

Thats another thread unto itself. I'll dig the old one up later today, didn't have a chance to respond for a while then bin laden madness happened.
