Ok, I took a deeper look at the Tennessee offense in the game Saturday.
It's really different first of all.
They almost always stack receivers AND they split them outside of the numbers. That's two receivers outside of the numbers on each side. What does that mean?
1. It's hard to adjust zone coverages to that alignment because you have to account for the space outside of the numbers right at the snap. That's almost backwards logic for defense.
2. When in man coverage, there is no way not to do one of two things: Leave open spaces in the middle of the field or take defenders out of the box. There's so much that goes into lining up with Tennessee.. OH and on top of that, they snap the ball every 20 seconds.
3. They just run the two-man combo routes on both sides a lot of times. Sometimes they have different ones going on both sides. It is probably a lot on the QB sometimes, but it helps receivers get open in my opinion.
It definitely helps when your QB has a howitzer arm.
Ready to see Georgia match up with them.
