i believe we were the only two who said he was going to win on the road course this year.
I bumped the thread.

I'm not saying Nascar is a joke even though they continue to go that way, but the way Montoya won is a joke. It's so stupid he was 15th all day and suddenly fuel strategy comes into play and he's right up there. I still don't buy these people talking about how good he is. He better prove he can win on an oval before I'll consider him any good. I'll have to give my honest opinion of this race tomorrow when my emotions die down.
C'mon now, Montoya was charging through the field just like Gordon, Johnson, and Stewart. His team managed to stretch the fuel when it mattered most, of course, but so did a lot of other teams. From about lap 9 or 10 on, it was just a fuel strategy race. Fuel strategy didn't make that nice pass on McMurray. This dude can wheel it on a road course.

LIKE FREAKING INDIANAPOLIS!!!!!!!

Do you not understand that I'm talking about Nascar. He can't live on other series success to make a living in Nascar. Heck, he'd never led a lap until under 10 to go. He was the only driver in the Nextel Cup to have not led. That shows how good of a racer he is.

Still straight up he didn't have the car to win or be top 5 without fuel mileage. The guy who deserves all of the credit is Wingo. And there's no way Montoya saved 4 laps of fuel as hard as he was driving. But I agree he made a great pass. There will always be races with fuel mileage races someone wins and I'll give him credit for taking advantage of it and passing Jamie. But until I'll consider him a good driver he needs to win on a oval track in Nascar.

Montoya only has about 25-30 stock car races under his belt. He hadn't raced a stock car competitively until late last year, and so far he's 2 for 2 on tracks where the driver can make a difference. He's at the mercy of his equipment for the most part on the ovals until he gets more experience. Even then he'll still be just as good as the car he's driving, like everyone in NASCAR.

Juan made a HUGE gamble, and it paid off, which is what you have to do, when you haven't led a lap all year.

This course is his strength, and he had to take a big risk to win it.

you ever stop and think how many of the guys who have led a lap got it because they stayed out when the leaders pitted under caution?

...and yet none of you picked Montoya in your Top 5 this week. :p
I really didn't expect him to win or make it to the top five after he qualified so poorly with all of the strategy and all that stuff. Even more impressive; started 32nd and still won. I believe they said 13th was the record for worst starting position to win here.

Luck.....everyone up front went to the pits & Montoya stayed out on a gamble. He won't win many races gambling.

Mcmurray did the same but ran out a gas.

Montoya passed McMurray before he ran out of gas.

Harvick, safe on fuel, still couldn't catch him.

Don't be a hater.

They planned their pit stops perfectly. It's not a gamble when your plan works. I imagine he'll qualify a lot better at Watkins Glen to reduce the excuses.

Harvick was told they were going to run out so he let him go. I think he could have made it interesting, but I'm not going to make excuses for Kevin because he never had a winning car all day.

Didn't get to watch the race, but from the highlights I just saw on Sportscenter, looks like he bullied his way through half the field, knocking people out of the way and spinning people out. Ends up winning on fuel mileage. I'm tired of fuel mileage races.
