Racism

I figured someone would look at this very superficially and make that claim about my pointing these photos out.

1) I agree that there is too much race baiting.

2) An effect of race baiting is that it diminishes the force of calling out racism when it really happens.

3) I think what Drudge is doing is intentional and racist.

'nuff said.

What you don't seem to understand is that your jumping to the racism charge, assuming Drudge is a racist and seeking evidence to support your assertion is equally race baiting.

My assumption is that you are a racist because you see a picture of Obama kissing a white woman and immediately think of race. That doesn't enter my mind at all. Is my assumption true? Apparently as long as I believe you are a racist then I'm justified in claiming such.

You seriously think it was just conicidence that he ran a photo of the black presidential candidate kissing the white woman? That was the best photo they had lying around to tag to the stroy -- one with him just lurching over to the side like that and you can see about a quarter of his face?

Please.

LG,

What is your goal in continuing this discussion? Is it to "win" the argument (in your own mind) and thereby prove that you are somehow smarter or more insightful than those who disagree with you? If so, please continue....

However, if your goal is to win the election without further alienating those whose support your candidate will need, I'd recommend you let this one go. Nobody cares if you're right (in your own mind). And, please know that I say that with all due respect as I certainly value your viewpoint, but IMO, I just don't think it helps your cause, that is, if your cause is helping to get Barack Obama elected.

Exactly my point. Well spoken.

remind me again how it matters?

the demographic that you're implying he's speaking to seriously read Drudge regularly?

I don't think that Drudge thinks he is reaching many undecided voters with this, on that I will agree. But there is an inside baseball element to it. Same reason the leftists blog. No significant number of undecideds go to Moveon.

But if you make your living being a champion of the right and can tweak some of their sensibilities...

Now, before you claim that I am saying that ALL Republicans are racist, that of course is not true at all. But part of what Drudge does is for pure entertainment value. He makes a living being a pot stirrer and antagonistic. These photos are just part of it.

I think that's a serious oversimplification of a complex matter. The reality is that historically black men and white women is a taboo. Rumors of black men raping white women were used to justify all sorts of horrible things and the notion that black men are always looking for an angle to enjoy white women sexually is a stereotype that has been used many times.

I say that Drudge's posting of those particular photos -- and I mean more the one yesterday -- and I note he posted no others that day -- is a tug at that stereotype. He's allowed to do it. A lot of people are noticing. As others have posted in reaction to this on here, he is in some sense thereby succeeding.

this part goes without saying. If one proclaims that they believe something, it's true. What else is there to debate?

As I said I cannot look into Drudge's heart but I base my opinion on what I've been seeing for awhile now and specifically the last two days.

As with the post from BPV above, if the test for posting any thought on this website was whether people already agreed with the thesis of the point -- or at least didn't vehemently disagree -- then there wouldn't be a board.

Go to the main page and there is constant back and forth about Fulmer and Crompton and what to do about what. Same here.

So please don't try to squelch people's opinions by being so dismissive based on the fact that they have a minority point of view on the subject.

Those are two pretty good jokes and images poking fun at the stereotype.

Drudge wasn't poking fun.

Your amazing ability to look into the intent of Drudge, various other right wingers and of course Joe Sixpack is truly amazing.

your viewpoint is much more ridiculous than it is minority.

LG, maybe i wasn't very clear in my post. I wasn't trying to squelch anyone's opinion, I was just trying to get at the heart of your motives... which I imagine are very similar to mine. To be clear, I have no problem with your view here. In fact, I agree Matt Drudge probably is trying to stoke racial fears in an effort to hurt Obama, but just b/c I know this is true (in my own mind) doesn't mean I should try to prove the unprovable -- especially if it ends up hurting my candidate in the process.

Each day that this election is about "race" is a day that Barack Obama loses. Drudge knows that. Obama knows that. Drudge wants us to be discussing this right now. So does Rush and Hannity as do those professional insiders in the so-called liberal media. They're bored out of their minds right now, and they will do anything to inject some excitement back into this race. Nothing does that quicker than a bunch of stories about "overly-sensitive paranoid libs" over-reacting to some perceived slight which can't be proven anyway...

That's all I was getting at. I wasn't trying to squelch your opinion. I appreciate your opinion, and I apologize if I came across as a sanctimonious jerk. That was not my intention.

Your point is well taken. Its just hard to look the other way when people who build their empires touting freedom seem to think freedom is best used to appeal to the worst in people. Ya know?

And to think you were undecided for so long...

It depends on your perspective........values vs. pocketbook. For me, though economically I would likely fare better with a Democrat in the Whitehouse, I,personally, am against abortion, same sex marriages, euthanasia etc. issues that the leftists favor. These are decisions that each person has to decide before voting.

You hit the nail on the head with the hammer. This economy is in major disarray to place your vote based on skin color. Hell I am a black man, but I like Ronald Reagan in the early 80's, because he had big brass balls and didn't take no s%$t from anyone. I will back OBAMA simply because I feel that he is better suited IMO to lead the country.

I still am, though admittedly leaning to Obama right now.

I really don't view McCain as part of the Drudge type cabal. In fact, I think Drudge probably has some misgivings about McCain and vice versa. Just that they have a common enemy.

Point is, as aggravating as I find some of the low level crap by Drudge and his ilk, I don't pin that to McCain.

I noticed you haven't expressed outrage at the sexist treatment of Palin by the left (as documented conveniently in another thread). Low level crap no?

subliminal messages demand the outrage, not the ones that are just in your face.

I'm just curious if anyone thinks it's equal racisim . I only had a few good responses from the first time I posted this . Yall fell free to dive in.

The black panthers were in alamo today to make sure no blacks were intimidated . This was good , but only if they weren't intimidating the white voters to not show up.
