As of today Rivals has us at #12.

I'd say easily top 10 in both if we get him.

I would certainly vault us into the top 10 with a signing of Smith. Different services look at disparate factors in concocting their rankings. Some look at purely the players signed, others look at how you filled needs, and there are those that try to combine the two. While maybe not on the level of UNC and Ohio State, I think this class would match up favorably with the next line of classes, i.e. UCONN, Duke, Oklahoma, etc.

While we're putting the cart before the horse, does anyone have any new news on his eligibility status? I think I remember reading something last year about that being a big question mark...

He has bounced around a bit this year. Given the New York Times expose on prep schools, I'm certain his transcript will be scrutinized. However, my guess is Pearl has some level of confidence reagrding Smith's chances of qualifying. Otherwise, I believe he would be recruiting the JC ranks harder.

Yeah, Pearl strikes me as the kind of guy who does his homework. Anyway, I've got my fingers crossed. What a coup it would be if he could bring Ramar on board - especially considering he would be denying Arkansas a guard they desperately need! :biggrin2:

It starts in mid-April and end in mid-May. Players have about a month(a little over I believe) to sign during the spring signing period.

We are ranked as low as 16th in the rankings. I believe Hoopmasters has us in the Top 10. Rivals has us at #12. Other services have us around 10th. Getting Ramar Smith would give us a consensus Top 10 class and likely a Top 5 class in some opinions.

The coaches feel good about getting him on campus for a visit and right now the plan is for him to be in for the O&W Game.

Yeah they really want him, he is a good prospect. Tennessee wants him as well. As of right now, it looks like he will likely be visiting April 7th. Jarvis Hill(2005 recruit that went to prep school) will also be in that weekend for an official visit and he is favoring Tennessee right now. I don't think he has a firm offer at this point, but he is definitely a guy we could choose to bring in. As for our chances with Ramar. if he actually makes it in for a visit, we will have a very real chance. If he doesn't make it in for a visit, obviously he will not be coming to Tennessee.

I believe Pearl is still recruiting a Juco PG. With Ramar, there are some potential qualification issues, plus the fact he's moved around so much leaves a bad impression on "commitment." He's be described as selfish with the ball as well. He doesn't have a good outside shot and isn't aggressive enough on defense according to some scouting services. Pearl obviously will have to evaluated the kid on his "coachablility" and commitment to "team."

For one, Ramar is using a program that has helped him get a better grip on his needed requirements for college. I've seen several sites that have reported Ramar as having a very good shot at qualifying. Second, he's the top ranked player out of michigan. He's Kings's go to guy in the clutch. I've not seen too many scouts that have said he was a "ball-hog". Last, many recruiting sites list Ramar's defensive work-ethic as one of his major strengths. Most say he has a good outside shot, but he's not always consistent. With his heavy build on a 6'2" frame, I think Ramar Smith is the missing link for one of the best, if not THE best, recruiting class Tennessee Mens basketball has ever seen!!!!

Thanks for the welcome. I didn't want to seem hostile because I actually come in peace:) I've just been doing much research on Ramar since I heard of several sites saying it is now down to Arkansas and Tennessee. From what I've read, he seems to play a very up-tempo style that I think fits well with Coach Pearl's program. I was curious, what JC player are the Vols still actively recruiting? Another question... What does everyone think Tyler Smith is feeling about the way Vol Ball seems to be coming back around for the mens b-ball team??

When did we offer the scholly? Not arguing with you, but just checked scouthoops.com and they show RS having high interest in Arky and medium interest in us. Per scout, we haven't offered but they could certainly be wrong.

I hope we get the guy if Pearl wants him. Scout shows him to be a 4*, anyone know his Rivals rating?
