Cobb on home-state power Tennessee, which joined his recruiting race late: "They said they never had a chance to see me. I'm 10 minutes away (Alcoa). Everything just sounded like a big lie from them. I just thought this was my best situation."

That doesn't surprise me. If Cutcliffe and Kurt Roper couldn't find Montario Hardesty on the sidelines in the Alabama game, what makes anyone think they could have found an athlete 10 miles down the road...

I'm so glad those guys are at Duke...

I am glad they are at Duke also, but don't see the point of this thread. So some local kid has a chip because he was ignored. They were correct to ignore him unless he goes on to prove they were wrong to.

There is no excuse to not have even given this guy a look when this is an athlete/QB in your own backyard that has won a state championships. It does not surprise me at all that Cutcliffe would over look a guy like Cobb in his quest to find the next Manning clone.

Not having gone to a game of his, is not the same as not giving him a look.

They said they never had a chance to see me.

If they would have seen him in person, I'm sure someone in the stands would have notified him and made him aware of it. So I'm certain he isn't talking about a coach actually going to a game. This comment seems to indicate that they never even watched a lick of film on the guy (or at least not enough to make an evaluation about him).

Oh well, I do not follow recruiting like many in here. I could just as easily take that statement to mean they had not seen him in person. I saw him on TV and was glad we were not interested in him.

There's no way you saw Cobb play and could have come away thinking "good riddance" to a guy like that being on the field in some capacity (maybe not QB, but somewhere). No way any reasonable person could have come away thinking that.

Oh well, I'll not worry about you determining my ability to reason. He wound up at KY. Evidently, big time football schools are filled with people you consider incapable of reasoning.

Most schools have an ability to keep players like this in state. This guy was in our backyard and we just let him go like yesterday's newspaper. It makes 0 sense to on the one hand complain about Tennessee not having a recruiting base, and then turn around and ignore a guy with his athletic ability in your backyard just slip away.

I wanted this guy b/c we could have use him as an hybrid QB, but then we started to use Gerald Jones and I thought, nevermind w/ this guy.

He won't be the second version of Chris Lofton. Lofton never trahed his home state school. He was class throughout his career about that situation. Cobb is running his mouth and hasn't done anything yet. And oh yeah, UK put him at WR. I thought they were giving him a chance at QB? oh well.

That is exactly what I am afraid of. Mr. Football of Tennessee goes to Kentucky after home state team (hell, essentially home town team) disses him.

Who awarded him Mr. Football? Furthermore, the fact that he said the coaches didn't "see him" doesn't necessarily mean they never watched him play or saw footage of him. It could just as likely mean they never met with him.

Good luck to him. He's a good player and ended up in the SEC. Just needs to shut his trap and quit friggin whining.

Good point. The fact that they have been having a QB competition and he still got moved to WR tells you something. If he still doesn't get a chance at QB now that Pulley has been kicked off the team, then they were pretty much blowing smoke with him.

Also, I read the article where Clawson was going over to his house to meet with him and was recruiting him and Cobb called him and told him that probably wouldn't be a good idea. He said he was sticking with his decision to go to Kentucky. I wish him luck, but I too think he should just play ball and not talk so much.

His frustration was not aimed at Clawson or the new staff. It was all about Cutcliffe.

That was understood by Cobb even if he went to kentucky... he probably was going to end up at wide receiver anyways. The point is that I don't see how a guy like him couldn't contribute anywhere or be of no use to us. It's not about playing QB, it's about finding a way to get a playmaker on the field... esp. one that lives in Alcoa.
