Randall Cobb

They don't give those awards based on how good rivals thinks you are. They give them on production.

I'll re-word my point....not getting the 18th ranked player in the state of Tennessee is not that big of a deal...

Most schools have an ability to keep players like this in state. This guy was in our backyard and we just let him go like yesterday's newspaper. It makes 0 sense to on the one hand complain about Tennessee not having a recruiting base, and then turn around and ignore a guy with his athletic ability in your backyard just slip away.

Players "like this" in state? We did not want him, that does not reflect the inability to keep him.

He was in our backyard? I don't care if his high school was butted up against Neyland Stadium. He doesn't seem to have been that coveted. I don't share in this philosophy of getting a kid, just to get him, because he is local.

We wanted him more before his teammate, who was also being recruited by Bama, South Carolina, etc, was kicked off Alcoa's team. It was one of those deals for UT, I believe, so Cobb likely had some sour grapes after UT was not as interested as before.

I know Randall's a tough guy, and I liked his work in "Raising Arizona", but I just find it hard to imagine him being a legitimate prospect to play at the SEC level...not at his age.

I wish him all the luck in the world at UK, but I think he should stick to acting.

That is exactly what I am afraid of. Mr. Football of Tennessee goes to Kentucky after home state team (hell, essentially home town team) disses him.

Yea I'm really worried about him being the football version of Lofton... I see him leading UK to 2 SECE titles and an SEC title.

I am so tired of hearing recruits gripe about there home state schools overlooking them. I am sure every team in the sec has a player that there homestate didnt recruit.

We said the same things about Patrick Willis...

So True, Look at that state game and see how many touches Patrick got Good Grief!!! BTW, Cobb will be a stud @ UK. From what I hear Uk's recruiting department hasn't outgrown their britches and really have built some momentum in the last few years. IMHO all the studs that don't go to UT or Florida, Georgia ect are starting to look at UK and its starting to show on the field, I remember when they would go bonkers over a db with a 4.9 40 from northern Indiana who was undersized. But let's give it some time their building a rising program over there. Time will tell. I don't want them in my backyard gettin quality players and Cobb needs to play and not run his mouth.

For one thing, it was the old offensive regime's fault - IMO, they couldn't hold the jocks of the current offensive regime in recruiting. Every single recruit or prospect for 2009 has commented on how incredible both Coach Scott and Coach Adkins are. Also, many have mentioned how cool Coach Clawson is. And that's not even mentioning our other very good recruiter, Stan Drayton, or up and comer Jason Michael.

Second, every recruit this year has mentioned how UT is like a family, and how honest Coach Fulmer is.

Sorry Mr. Cobb, you weren't good enough for an offer.

Even with all of UK's QB trouble recently there is no mention of him at all anywhere. We have plenty of young receivers and won't miss him a bit.

The SEC is trembling at UK's back-to-back 8 win seasons.

Thats funny:eek:lol: Well Indiana aint happy on the bottom looking up. UK and IU always faught for last.

My point was how good the sec is! good players are choosing UK when the top teams in sec pass them up.:banghead2:

I think that late offer had more to do with where he played and how crap last years class was than his ability.

It does always help to maintain pipelines to a school that produces talent like Alcoa by offering a guy who may be just not good enough for your program. I hear Alcoa has some good rising juniors and sophomores.

Exactly. He may have contributed somewhat but I don't think it would have been anything significant.

If you're going to offer guys solely on the basis of being the grandkids of boosters/BOT members, then I guess you might as well offer guys to keep the pipelines open.

Its no different from the package deals that happen all the time.

UT could never offer another "hometown" kid and be just fine.
