Two of the most hated places I walk into is a auto repair shop and auto parts stores. It’s all foreign language spoken in those places. Let’s not even get into the looks and the talking down “pretty lady” crap.

I hear you. It's difficult growing up female. We are the most underrated, underappreciated, underpaid of any people. I don't care what color or creed that you are, females have it hard, haha! I trust the guys at my Goodyear Tire place. We have mutual respect for each other. In other words, I don't feel like I am going to get raped, literally or figuratively, when I go in there to service my vehicle.

Last year, my air conditioning went out in the middle of summer. I took it to local repair shop. The owner called that the compressor had went out and it would be a certain amount. I already knew how much it was supposed to be. I told him nope and I would pick my car after work and take it to his competition. He called back 1 min later (no kidding), saying he got my car mixed up with another one and the price was almost 200 dollars less.

It’s not just women that mechanics think they can take advantage of. I was driving on the interstate in my work truck and looked down at the speedometer and noticed the temperature gauge was pegged hot but the truck was running fine so I pulled over to the shoulder and my boss called a tow truck to take it to a tire store that also does mechanic work across the street from our office. They kept it overnight because it was closing time and called me the next morning and told me the block was warped and we needed a new engine. I was furious and told my boss we need to get the truck out of there and we took it to a shop a couple of blocks away owned by the brother of a former employee of our company. The owner called me a couple of hours later and said come get the truck, the radiator hose had a hole rubbed in it being too close to a metal part of the engine. Drove it for about another 100k miles.

and I was saddened to see his obituary, but that is not the first time that has happened when I have been searching
for some of my old running buddies...
