Rank Our Rivalries !!!

In the spirit of the offseason, and please God let me wake up tomorrow and it be football season, rank our rivals.

I will start with what I think the top 3 are, for me anyway, in the last 20 years. If different in different decades, please explain.

1. Florida (hated them Gators when Spurrier was there and hate them now)
2. Georgia (always stings when we lose to the underacheivers)
3. Alabama (Buck Fama)
14. Kentucky (hope they don't beat us for another 20 years)

What say you Vol Nation???

GBO!!!!!

Not sure how you can start a thread with 78 post.

You are not a true fan, it is obvious in your ranking. Unless you are a Dooley fan. Then it would make sense I suppose.

1. Alabama
2. Florida
3. Georgia
4. South carolina (this is a very recent addition to the list that stems from their ascendance and our decline as a program; i am hopeful that the significance of this particular rivalry goes back to what it was prior to steve spurrier's arrival.)

For some of us born after 1989, Florida is the most HATED rival. But Alabama is unanimously the top rivalry and has been since...what, 1901?

From Wiki: The first game between the two sides was played in 1901 in Birmingham, ending in a 6–6 tie. From 1902 to 1913, Alabama dominated the series, only losing once, and never allowing a touchdown by the Volunteers.

Interesting that if you take away those first 10 games, our record in the last century vs Bama from (1914 to 2014) is: 42-37-6 compared to 50-38-7. The Third Saturday in October will always be one of the strongest and most competitive rivalries in college football.

1. Alabama
2. Florida
3. Georgia
4. Vanderbilt
5. Kentucky (for basketball reasons)

Then South Carolina gets some hate because, ya know, Darth Visor resides there. UConn is (or was) the Lady Vols biggest rival but they stopped playing each other. Luckily we get to stomp them on the football field in 2015 & 2016.

This guys is good. Listen to him OP

So now OP decides to resort to calling posters names when they predicably respond in a sensible way to OP's questionable listing.

OP you need to shed the thin skin if you intend to post threads with the lead-in like the one you posted.

I've turned down the hottest girls once they told me they were gator fans. I married a Thai woman, and converted her into a UT fan.

I'm not one who thinks the last 10 years have mattered much, so I am looking over the last 100 with these rivals.
1) Alabama
2) Georgia
3) Florida
4) Auburn
5) South Carolina
6) Vandy
7) Kentucky

1. Bama. Has to be them at the top.
2. Florida. Also big but not as old as the Bama rivalry.
3. Vandy. Can't stand Vandy when they're losing and sure can't stand them when they have moderate success luckily that's about to come to an end for them.
4. Georgia. Historically the game with them was big in deciding how the East would play out. Not so much the past few years but still big.

Honestly, if you're looking at the last 100 years, Georgia should be quite a bit lower (the schools only played each other a grand total of 20 times from 1899 to 1992), Auburn higher, and South Carolina should be at the bottom. (To each their own though)

(Edit: And Ole Miss should probably be on there, too. They were a yearly game prior to the division split. mcubed.net : NCAAF Football : Series records : Tennessee vs. Mississippi . Also an older site on it from 2009 Tennessee and Ole Miss: Did You Know That… | Vols in the Fall)

It's interesting that posters seem to be saying FL has become less of a rivalry, despite the fact that they have owned our ass. To me, losing makes me hate them worse!!
