Looking at Spurrier's entire body of work, Saban is the only guy I could put in front of him. USCe is starting to improve under Spurrier the last couple of seasons, and there's no denying that what he did at Florida was anything less than incredible. Six conference championships, including 4 back to back, and a national championship. He won a minimum of 9 games every season there and had 9 ten win seasons out of his twelve years there.

Saban seems to have success everywhere he goes, that's pretty obvious. While Les Miles is having a great run at LSU, his time at OSU wasn't anything to be proud of.

Don't really see how you can rank Joker Phillips behind DD when he just outcoached him so badly that he was able to beat him with ridiculously inferior talent and no QB.

For me the list as of now is

1. Miles (only because he always gets the breaks, and it's good to have a guy like that on your side)
2. Saban
3. Petrino
4. Richt
5. Spurrier
6. Chizik
7. Mullen
8. Franklin
9. Muschamp
10. Phillips
11. Dooley

With the talent that Florida has, there is zero reason for their 500 record. So far Muschamp has not impressed me in the least.

Stupid because Muschamp is 1-0 against Dooley.

Having said that, I am tempted to agree we should be better than .500, but note that we lost our starting QB for some critical games, i.e. the close loss to Auburn. Plus we had over a dozen open scholarships this year -- the depth just wasn't there.

Can't stand the lack of discipline on the field, however. If that continues next year, the ouster contingent will have my vote, fwiw.

1 head-to-head game doesn't mean a lot to me in terms of coaching ability. And your injury excuse could easily be applied to that matchup too since Hunter got hurt. Game changer, IMO. But Florida still has legions of more talent than Tennessee.

Yes, I fully agree with that...anyone who takes Florida talent and has a .500 record is one incredibly bad coach. Florida has the best high school system in the country. Getting some of their talent is a staple for probably fifty Division I football programs. For the state school of Florida to only beat Vandy, UT, Kentucky & three non-conference cupcakes is incredible. Thank goodness for Muschamp! I hope they keep him there for a decade.
