rank the current SEC head football coaches in order from Best to Worst

agree except you should switch richt and spurrier. when mark can beat him, then he should be ranked ahead

Unfortunately I have to agree with the original poster. If you gave me the chance to swap Richt for Spurrier (if they were the same age), I'd do it in a heartbeat. Richt's nicer, Spurrier's smarter.

Are we ranking the best coaches in the present or overall resumes?

I ranked mine on the present - but not necessarily ranked on the job's they did this year. Essentially who I would take right now to be my coach for 1 season.

1. Saban
2. Miles
3. Spurrier
4. Petrino
5. Richt
6. Mullen
7. Chizik
8. Muschamp
9. Dooley
10. Franklin
11. Freeze
12. Phillips

7, 8, 9, and 10 could be rearanged in just about any order IMO.

In that case my rankings would be:

1) Saban
2) Miles
3) Spurrier
4) Richt
5) Petrino
6) Chizik
7) Mullen
8) Muschamp
9) Franklin
10) Dooley
11) Phillips

I think Freeze could make it up to around seventh.

Still curious how people are ranking Joker Phillips behind DD when less than 2 weeks ago Phillips outcoached him on such an epic scale that he was able to win with no QB and less talent at virtually every position on the field.

it's flawed logic. explain 3-way ties.

the big east for example. Louisville beat WVU, WVU beat Cincy, Cincy beat Louisville.

There's no tie in this case. DD is far and away the worst coach in the SEC that retained his job this season. The only other coach who lost to Kentucky this season is no longer employed, and Dooley deserves to be right there with him.

We beat Vandy. So shouldn't Dooley be higher than Franklin?? But Franklin beat Phillips, what to do?? See the flaw??

No conundrum at all there. Dooley beat Franklin with a superior team just as Franklin beat Phillips with a superior team. Out of all those guys, DD is the only one who lost a game to an inferior team with no QB this season, that's why he deserves to be last.

A relevant ? is where would this school be without the coach. That should impact your rankings a good bit.

1. Nick Saban
2. Steve Spurrier
3. Bobby Petrino
4. Les Miles (I believe the talent he brings in so easily gives him a built in advantage in almost every game.
5. Gene Chizik
6. Derek Dooley
7. Mark Richt
8. James Franklin
9. Dan Mullen
10. Will Muschamp (cannot believe how much he lost with that talent).
11. Houston Nutt
12. Joker Phillips

Dooley 2 spots behind a coach that may get his 2nd NC in a month and in front of a guy with multiple SEC titles?

Stupid because Muschamp is 1-0 against Dooley.

Having said that, I am tempted to agree we should be better than .500, but note that we lost our starting QB for some critical games, i.e. the close loss to Auburn. Plus we had over a dozen open scholarships this year -- the depth just wasn't there.

Can't stand the lack of discipline on the field, however. If that continues next year, the ouster contingent will have my vote, fwiw.

Dooley as a mid-pack coach tells me all I need to know about this list.

I was not ranking the people based on this year, I am basing it on overall coaching ability.

Next year when Dooley wins 9 in the regular season, people can bump this thread and laugh.
