This, pretty much in the same order.

I'd add Screaming Trees as an honorable mention, and mention Mad Season and Temple of the Dog.

Thought about temple of the dog. They had two really awesome songs. But other than that, meh. So I don’t add them.

Surprised at how many love AIC. I wasn’t into them as much in the 90’s. I liked them but they weren’t my favorite. Really got into them around the time of Lanes death.

I’ve never understood the love for them at all

I’d list Foo Fighters as an alternative rock band, along with Weezer, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Blink-182, The Offspring, etc.

Anybody mention Audioslave?

Are you implying grunge and alternative rock are different or the same?

Maybe it would make more sense to say that grunge is a subset of alternative rock.

I agree with this. But I wouldn’t place Audioslave in grunge either. I looked up “grunge” though and there are no set in stones parameters and most artists hate the label anyway.

Audioslave is a bit of a tweener. Very similar to Soundgarden, due to Chris Cornell, but a mellower sound. Maybe some influence from the RAtM guys, and I definitely wouldn’t consider RAtM to be grunge. They’re not really alternative either. Kind of a rock/rap mashup.

Nirvana/Alice in Chains
Pearl Jam
STP
Soundgarden
The Presidents of the United States of America
Mudhoney

Took way too long for Mudhoney to make this thread.

Personally I never cared for AiC, STP or Soundgarden. They always seemed to be more redneck grunge to me.

Nirvana’s best album is Unplugged.

Since it was a collaboration and many years after the grunge movement, I don't know if I'd categorize them.

RATM definitely wasn't grunge, and Cornell was.

Not really sure what that even means.

I've always considered AiC as more classic metal than grunge, and they themselves consider themselves metal.

STP's first album was the only one I consider grunge at all, everything after was more just rock.

Most of the people I knew that were big fans tended to be pretty red. I’m sure that is anecdotal but it’s the impression that was left on me. I just never got into them.

I'd list the Foo Fighters in the most generic rock bands of all time category.

1. Pearl Jam
2. STP
3. Nirvana

Early BS with Ozzie. Iron Man has all of the elements. More than 20 years before Aberdeen was a thing. Listen to Mike McCready's outro on Alive during the early 90s tour. Recognize what he's paying homage to?
