Grunge sucked
Love them!!
I'd say on the fringe.
Dude, you're trying too hard. Black Sabbath are the fathers of heavy metal. Grunge is a subset of a subset of metal and punk rock.
Just because Sabbath influenced the grunge sound doesn't make them a grunge band. They are influences to nearly every hard rock/metal band after them!
Would have Soundgarden #1 and Alice In Chains #2, Pearl Jam #3, Nirvana #4 and although they were not Seattle based, I would put Bush #5 (were at their peak in the same era and sounded like PJ)... RIP Chris Cornell and Layne Staley.Mine would have to be...
1. Alice In Chains
2. Pearl Jam
3. Soundgarden
4. Stone Temple Pilots
5. Nirvana (I'm not really a huge fan of them, but out of respect I couldn't keep them out of a top 5 grunge list.)
Personally Layne Staley is my favorite singer out of all of those. Cornell and Vedder are a close 2a/2b though.
I have my preferences in music but Nirvana would have to be the #1 grunge band followed by Pearl Jam.Would have Soundgarden #1 and Alice In Chains #2, Pearl Jam #3, Nirvana #4 and although they were not Seattle based, I would put Bush #5 (were at their peak in the same era and sounded like PJ)... I guess I include them with Soundgarden and PJ... that was one helluva an album. Still listen to it.I have my preferences in music but Nirvana would have to be the #1 grunge band followed by Pearl Jam.
They aren’t close to my favorites but they essentially defined the genre.
My favs would be.

For the most part, it's non-existent right now. Nearly every week, I scroll through the new releases on Spotify, and I literally can not believe people listen to most of that crap. There's no ingenuity, little to no actual instrumental talent, and no anthemic/memorable "songs." TBH, there is hardly even any heavy stuff/metal that I really like from the past 5-10 years, either. It's almost like the arts of playing the guitar, crafting a tone, and writing a song have been forgotten. There are a few that I include in my rock rotation (FFDP, Chevelle, BFMV, Halestorm, In this Moment), but it's almost out of necessity. What’s happened to rock music?
