Rank Your Realistic Possible New Coaches

Chatman will never coach in the NCAA again. Think Tyler Summitt. Might as well scratch her off your list. The allegations against Chatman were that she had a sexual relationship with a player that began when the player was a member of the team Chatman was coaching. Chatman huffed and puffed and there was a lot of "former player" BS tossed around on message boards but all that "former" meant was that Chatman continued the relationship after the player left the school. Chatman threatened to sue and ended up settling for chump change.

Ok. Hard pass.

*EDIT* - I take it back, she apparently has entertained offers.

Hammon turns down Florida, per Swish Appeal

I suppose if someone were to offer her enough money and control, maybe. But sure looks like it'd have to be in the 500-750 range to even start a conversation. I'd still wonder if she'd ever do it. The opportunity to continue in the NBA won't stick around forever.
We can only hope for someone like her. She’s not going to get a job as head coach in the n.b.a., although qualified. My question is how she would recruit and work with teenagers. Yeah I’d offer her big bucks and see what she says. Of course Vandy coach came from successful WNBA job and so far has been very disappointing. So who knows.

Bill Lambier - Las Vegas Aces
Cheryl Reeve - Minnesota Lynx
Mike Thibault - Washington Mystics

Has anyone brought up Carolyn Kieger at Marquette? She's only 35 years old and has Marquette as a top 10 team. W/L results are below:
2015: 9-22
2016: 14-16
2017: 25-8
2018: 24-10
2019: 16-3

Might be tough to pull her from her alma mater (Marquette) but I bet she'd jump on the opportunity to coach in Knoxville, especially if it meant a big pay day.

I would put her name right beside Courtney Banghart. The sad thing about all of this is, there are a number of good women coaches who could restore UT to its former elite status in WCBB. The talent is available but not the coaching.

I do not want a big time coach. Someone with Basketball intelligence will do far better than Holly. Becky, Lawson Candace if she wants to coach.
Someone who knows Kara Lawson should ask her interest in coaching. I’m damn sure if she was hired this team would likely be right back in the top 10 next year easy...

Agreed. I just KNOW she’d be excellent at understanding and implementing the types of offensive and defensive schemes that would showcase the skills of our talented players. There would be no regression.

Coaches I like even though I know were still a long way from a change.

Bart Books Belmont head coach always puts a terrific team on the floor fundamentally who are very limited talent wise.
Wes Moore has taken a mediocre program to National attention. A tough place to recruit he does it with players not highly thought of for the most part. He may have one or two rated players on the team.
Becky Hammon is certainly a talented coach who probably has her sites set on something higher than women's college basketball.
Michael Schwartz is high energy would instill in the girls fundamentals and will to win. He has done a terrific job since joining Rick Barnes staff would bring that system and player development to the women's team.
Carolyn Kieger Marquette head coach really get the maximum out of the players she gets in that program.
Lisa Fortier current Gonzaga basketball coach gets excellent results year after year.
Dawn Plitzuweit South Dakota head coach 14 and 0 in conference record last season. Currently 16 and 3 with a 13 point win over Missouri on their home floor.

I'll add Kara Lawson although she is not coming makes way to much money with ESPN don't think she would ever want to be bogged down as a women's basketball coach.

This is just several of the excellent coaches that could JMO get this program back up to a high level nationally and compete for SEC titles every season.

How dare you bring logic to this conversation... seriously nice post.

Go VOLS!!!!

How could there be any regression from the current train wreck?o_O

Ole pokey had an outstanding record at LSU before the actuations of an affair with a former player forced her to resign. I suppose that baggage would preclude her being considered as a college coach again. Similar to Tyler’s situation. Too bad, she would seem to be a option otherwise. Maybe she’s been out of college game too long. Didn’t she get into a dust up with the Baylor head coach? She was a emotional coach.
Yep, there was bad blood between Pokie and Kim. If memory serves me correctly, Pokie made some snide comments about Kim in public and on the recruiting trail. Mulkey handled the problem on the court in the NCAAs.

We have an incredible assistant coach in Sherrona Reaves. She has been a life saver with excellent recruiting following two years of very lean recruiting. Those two years are showing up know. I say give Reaves a chance. In any event we need to keep her talent.
Great if they would fire Holly early and see how it looks before a contract.

I have always felt that Tennessee should’ve went with Nikki over Holly. She really coach her girls up considering the talent level on her teams. And she bring that toughness and fire as well. And hell even she was able to beat a mediocre Alabama team 🤦🏾‍♂️

Fargas has NEVER made it past the Sweet 16 at UCLA or LSU

Bounced in the FIRST Round 3 times

Did not make NCAA Tournament in 2015-2016 season with a 10-21 record

Fargas reeks of mediocrity.

Maybe ya'll have Fargas mixed up with "Pokey" Chapman, who took LSU to 3 consecutive Final Fours.

Seimone Augustus and Sylvia Fowles.

So you think if Holly was the coach at LSU, she would still be able to sign a multitude of McD AA and get them to the E8 on multiple occasions? My belief is that Holly benefitted greatly from the Tennessee brand, and would have a much worse record someplace that didn't recruit for itself.

Amen to that!
