RANKING SEC Fan Bases by Average IQ

Understand your point but to be fair it’s “fanbases” not alumni. The majority of UFs fanbase never actually went to UF. Just like the majority of other major SEC fanbases.

Beat me to it….for every alum, we’ve got a couple dozen Walmart, Dollar Tree “graduates” like Waco Kid who never stepped foot on campus other than a fall Saturday.

UF’s standing as one of the nation’s top public universities has nothing to do with some of our fan base being mouthbreathing posers….like Waco Kid.

Oh, I don't know. I think the vast majority of UF fans went there. I'm sure some relatives and friends of students might also be fans, but the great majority I think were students at some time.

Your point is more likely to be true of what I would refer to as "commuter schools." U Miami comes to mind. The school is pretty small but when they were in their heyday the city's masses embraced their cultural "in your face" paradigm and, if you were unlucky enough to go to a game at their "stadium," I daresay half the people in the stands didn't even know where the campus was, much less had ever been enrolled.
For Miami games, half the people in the stadium = a quarter of the stadiums’ capacity.

I saw the ticket takers at the Neyland gate asking people as they went in were they alumni, and then marking a yes or no on a pad. They do this at every game in the SEC all season long, so you know these results are accurate.

The gatekeepers still have my student ID from when I loaned it to a friend to use passed around student tickets many years ago. I regret that to this day.

I agree, the two aren’t related, and UF is absolutely a great academic University. I saw a US News poll and UF ranked #2 in the SEC behind Vanderbilt. I think they were 29th nationally which is extremely good. UGA was #3 and I think 49th nationally, which I’m proud of, it’s pretty good also.

But we need those non graduates, they are the backbone of our fan bases. CFB wouldn’t be what it is without them! Sure some of them do fit the term “mouth breather” but college grads don’t have a monopoly on intelligence. Some of the smartest people I know don’t have degrees.

I ran across these rankings for 2024 recently, UF is No. 2 academically in the conference, UGA No. 5, UT No. 7. The worst school academically in the SEC is Miss State.

I was referring to a USA Today piece referring to the 22-23 year. Not really a ton of difference.

Some schools do seem like their fanbase is made up of a disproportionately high % of folks who actually went to the school. I've never gotten the impression that UF is one of those schools. It isn't as skewed as UM or Alabama, but I'd be shocked if a "vast majority" of UF's fans actually want to school there.

Who in their right mind would choose Oregon State over Stanford under any circumstances?
I certainly wouldn't have taken OSU over Stanford. but I have no idea why they didn't take OSU and WSU. could have had a western "division". maybe letting some of the smaller sports stay out west to get a couple events in before heading home.

Stanford's enrollment is 16,914. Students go there for more than one year. Let's say 4000 students per year over 50 years = 200,000 fans. If 99.9% of fans went there, that's 200,200 fans.

Oregon State's enrollment is 33,193. Let's say 8000 students per year over 50 years = 400000 fans. If 75% of fans went there, that's 533,333 fans.

I too would have taken Stanford over Oregon State. My conclusion is that the study is bogus.

Let’s say sign stealing Jim Harbaugh never won at Stanford. What would be your perception of them then? Because that’s where they’re headed again.

Enrollment numbers aren’t the driving force in conferences adding new members.

Stanford’s athletic and academic reputation is a much bigger draw than their relatively smaller alumni and fan base.
