As if the ACC had better options…

The ACC should have taken the Pac12 in its entirety and created a West Coast [division]. They wouldn’t have to travel nearly as much and the conference championship could have been epic.

I say in it’s entirety at the point after USC, Washington and Oregon left. UCLA maybe could have been coerced into staying as they would have fit in very well with the basketball blue bloods. Perhaps they could have hung on to Arizona, ASU, and Utah also.

Fanciful thinking.. I know. The PAC 12 and ACC became victims of trying to keep up instead of reinventing.

Enrollment numbers aren’t the driving force in conferences adding new members.

Stanford’s athletic and academic reputation is a much bigger draw than their relatively smaller alumni and fan base.
I wasn't questioning that -- I was questioning the study.

I still think the "at risk" conferences need to come together for some type of alliance that shows up on the field. something different that the other conferences aren't doing.

some type cross conferences games every year, give it a snappy name. even figure out some way to make it an in season tournament. 3 weekends where 4 schools from each conference have no set schedule except the tournament. the winners stay "in" the tournament, while the losers just play other losers in what becomes their OOC game for that week.

Good ideas. You know, they said they would work together, maybe not to be splashy as you mention here, but they already figured that out they had to work together, then lied, then didn't do it. Now it's really too late.

They might have saved something of how football worked at the P5 "divisions" state of the art (with 12 to 14 teams). I really liked that. It ain't about me, though.

All we ever asked for was a 8 to 16 team playoff. I don’t think anyone wanted the conferences to re-align (especially geographically).

No matter what the fans ask for, the media (tv contracts) is hellbent on creating something different. It’s like punishment for asking them to improve.
