Rankings

Kind of like a kid from Georgia southern making the transition to the SEC gauntlet?

Lemme know when the Xavier kid throws 100 with two off-speed pitches and is ranked the #1 transfer P.O. lol.

In reality, the Xavier kid is a reliever who throws low 90s with a Randy Johnson release that fools hitters the first few times through. This is the SEC though. And now LSU wants him to be the Friday night starter.

If hitters can't watch film, sit on a 92 mph fastball OR the hanging slider, they shouldn't be (and likely aren't) in the SEC.

He either just blindly hates LSU, which I mean… I respect it.

Or he hasn’t really followed the portal recruiting and figured if they made a true splash, he’d have heard about it. Which I also get, baseball isn’t a 365 day a year sport for most fans.

But he is wrong either way, and LSU is certainly a CWS championship caliber team.

The SEC this year has many.. us, Vandy, LSU, Florida, Arkansas are the bonafides.

But you could make a case for South Carolina, A&M, Auburn, Georgia..

it’s stacked this year. If we have a 44-22 record again, that’s a success. I have a feeling there won’t be that many SEC teams with losses in the low teens this year.

I played baseball in college my guy and know several SEC coaching staffs professionally. I follow the sport pretty intensely for someone who is no longer playing. If you did too, congrats, but your argument is extremely unconvincing (to me).

I would also be willing to bet (based on the roster builds) that Vandy and Arkansas get upset before Omaha. I already have futures on the sports betting apps for a few scenarios. College baseball has printed me money in the last few years, as the odds are usually mispriced.

Right on schedule - LSU can't contain a VMI squad and almost lost. 500 in conference for sure unless serious changes are made.

Vandy also almost lost to FAU, lol.

Fake tough SEC squads that have a lot of work to do to sniff postseason success.

If your above post is true, you’ll know you can’t overreact to game one. Our trifecta of first round draft picks looked atrocious the entire first half of the season last year.

It’s just disingenuous. It’s like when Gerrit Cole got hit around his first start after the spider tac ban and everyone said his career was over.

Vandy lost to FAU today.

Luke Holman threw well. Granted it was Central Arkansas, but his velo was in the 92-94 range with good off-speed. I think he will hit a wall mid-year if he is the Saturday guy, but so do a lot of kids. The amount of video these kids watch now is insane, so unless your stuff has plus aspects to it, you will get figured out. His breaking stuff looked pretty nice from the few videos I saw though.

He played just fine as a starter last year in the SEC. I don’t know why he’d hit a wall at LSU

It hits differently when you are a weekend starter, and the best offensive players in the nation watch videos, let alone the AI simulations nowadays with the headsets, to prep. Stakes go up a lot.

You need to have plus stuff on 2+ pitches or be a complete pitcher who isn't readable and attacks differently from game to game. Obviously, that is the hard part, and why I am initially skeptical of any PO transfer that doesn't have MLB-graded stuff.

Note: Dollander, Burns, Leiter (Vandy), Rocker (Vandy), Nola (LSU), Skenes (LSU), Roth (SC), Shore (UF), Faedo (UF), Fulmer (Vandy), Caglianone (UF, if he ever fixes his command), etc. are exceptions to the norm for pitching, and we are lucky to have seen/see these guys throw!

Never did pay much attention to rankings especially in the SEC, as for the most part everyone is very competitive. It’s without a doubt, the toughest conference in college baseball. I will say through 12 games we look like we will hold our own in conference play. Looking forward to games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Want to see how our pitching does in two mid week games. It’s great to get a power 5 mid week game (K-State) and a 3 game series (Illinois) this weekend. Go Vols!
