Whose ranking is this?

I just think it’s funny that we had the exact same conference record last season that Wake Forest currently has now (11-10) and yet they are deserving of a national seed according to at least 1 publication while we were ranked 18th. Yeah makes a lot of sense to me…
well they have Chase Burns

ACC 7

SunBelt 2

Only 3 top-25 teams come from outside these conferences.

8 of 25 (32%) are SEC. 5 of top 8
7 of 25 (22%) are ACC. 6 of top 14

I have to give credits to the polls from last week. Several held off moving Kentucky into top-3 spot.
They had a gaudy record but -as we discussed before, had not really played a top tier opponent- and NONE on the road.

Unless the wheels fall off in Lexington, I think Kentucky gets to host a regional. The trips to Florida and South Carolina will be huge for the Wildcats as these will be their first visits to hostile stadiums. Because KY will play so few hostile road series, they will have a lesser margin for error. Should they lay an egg at home vs. Arkansas, and lose 1 of the 2 road series, they may want to start checking for hotel space in several different North Carolina or Oklahoma cities, or even Terre Haute.

With 4 series to play and 15 wins already, seems like they would have to completely fall apart. Let's say they just win 3 of the remaining 12. How many 18 win SEC teams don't host?

Kentucky is much better than I thought they were coming into the weekend. They will definitely host a regional .... I thought we would sweep them on Friday. Now, I'm just glad we won the series.

Auburn plays @ LSU | OM | @ Missouri | AL a round robing against the four teams directly above them in standings.
LSU has more difficult foes with AU | TAMU | @ ALA | OM; but 3 are at home. LSU hold tiebreaker over #11 Missouri.
Mizzou has @ TN | SC | AU | @ MSU. Missouri has tiebreaker issues with LSU but hosts Auburn
Ole Miss plays AL | @ AUB | TAMU | @ LSU
Alabama schedule: @ OM | MSU | LSU @ AU
It's fortunate Florida has 3 game lead over #13 LSU as their closing schedule is @ AR | TN | KY | @ GA. They also hold the tiebreaker over LSU, which means LSU would need to win 4 more games than Florida- unless there's a cancellation.

As such, I believe 5 teams are competing for the last 3 spots in Hoover.

In the last 4 weeks (12 games) Auburn will need to outperform Missouri or Ole Miss by at least 4 games to qualify for Hoover.
Auburn clearly played the most difficult SEC schedule the first 6 weeks with series against all top-6 teams in the SEC and now they earn the easiest SEC schedule in the last 4 weeks. But they are in a massive hole. Winning every remaining series 2-1 put the Tigers at 10-20. In the last 6 full seasons, 10-20 would have qualified a team three times (2017,2019, 2021); would have eliminated a team once (2018) and would have left it to tiebreaker twice (2022 and 2023) So Auburn needs to win 9 games and get to 11-19 to feel confident.

I believe LSU with 9 home games will be able to pass Missouri with only 6 home games. LSU will likely pass Missouri this weekend to nab #11 spot.

Ole Miss will likely move to #10 with a series win over Alabama, giving them at least the tiebreaker. Alabama is terrible on road.
I believe Auburn may be unofficially eliminated on Sunday with a series loss at LSU as they would be forced to leapfrog 2 or 3 teams to reach #11.

Long story short. I believe Missouri and Auburn will be left in the cold. Missouri is the least talented team and Auburn simply had a ridiculous schedule. 2024 is the last SEC Tournament with the current format. 16 teams will result in a single elimination format in 2025. In that format, I have to wonder why we should even bother with a tourney. Go ahead and play a series instead, or give the players a week off before post season play begins.

This Weekend: Based on rankings

___Thursday- Saturday___
(11)
Missouri @ (4) Tennessee
(10) Alabama @ (11) Ole Miss

___Friday - Sunday_____________
(1) Kentucky @ (7) South Carolina
(5) Miss. State @ (5) Vanderbilt
(7) Georgia @ (3) Texas A&M
(9)
Florida @ (2) Arkansas
(14)
Auburn @ (13) LSU

Higher ranked team hosts 4 series
Lower ranked team hosts 2 series
6 teams are below. 500 and 4 of those teams play each other.
I would surmise that most home teams will be favored to win each series. The only exception may be Kentucky @ So. Carolina
I would expect a handful of sweeps. All by the home team.

Tennessee over Missouri (3-0) Hot weather in Knoxville may result in big numbers.
Texas A&M over UGA (3-0) Aggies at home will be tough for UGA to steal a game. UGA playing 15 inns on Tuesday makes this even more likely
Arkansas over Florida (2-1) Gators will have to show more heart than they've shown so far. I believe this heart will earn them only 1 win without significantly improved play. I just believe Arky's offensive production will hurt them eventually.

The worst two series:
(6) Alabama @ Ole Miss Both teams are more incapable on the road than a possumadillo. So OM should win. (OM 2-1)
(7) Auburn @ LSU Auburn likely playing out the string after this weekend. (LSU 2-1 - ugly)

The top two series:
(1) Kentucky @ So. Carolina This will be UK's chance to prove the first 5 weeks were not smoke and mirrors. Can they beat a decent team
in a difficult road environment for the first time in 2024. (SC 2-1)
(2) Miss. State @ Vanderbilt Both teams may be positioning as NCAA hosts and can't afford many more series losses (VU 2-1)

Looks like we will continue to be #3 this week. I bet we continue to pickup #3 national seed projections. I'm surprised to see Clemson holding ro #4 ranking in D1 and Baseball American (ACC homers so oh well).

I would also be willing to bet (based on the roster builds) that Vandy and Arkansas get upset before Omaha. I already have futures on the sports betting apps for a few scenarios. College baseball has printed me money in the last few years, as the odds are usually mispriced.

Right on cue, Vandy goes 2&BBQ and Arkansas is hanging on by a thread against SEMO. This place has a boatload of people who don't know **** but talk out their ass. lol, go vols btw, put Southern Miss to bed tonight.

Buddy it’s a message board, we aren’t here to make friends, but point taken.

I’ve had like 5-7 people follow me relentlessly on here talking **** like stalkers just to be wrong every time.
It is a community though. Most pleasant forum on Volnation, imho. There are plenty of drive-bys in the gamethreads that get scrolled by most of the regulars. We also have a few that feel responsible to defend the motherland from perceived trolls. Then there are the adults that have studied beisbol for a few decades. Welcome and enjoy the game!
