Stay where you are. You'll be happier. The internet will just depress you in the long run.

after a ten year absence...I retired 12 years ago to the woods of Campbell County on Norris Lake and became a recluse in many ways especially in terms of technology..

IE no cell phone, only a TV antenna, no WI-fi, no devices and no interest in them whatsoever...interestingly enough however I received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UT in 1974 and worked for one of the largest and most successful companies in the world for 33 years...

SO...what are your recommendations and ideas on how I best become knowledgeable so I can make informed decisions...most of my friends are older like me (65) and or idiots...a grandchild would come in handy about now but no such luck...I appreciate your help...
how did you join VN 5 years ago, if you went "hermit" 10 years ago

OP hasn't replied. No doubt he's taking tests on Facebook to see what his tombstone will look like and what his drunk elf name will be.

Better yet, he should start going to parks or middle schools and asking kids to come with him to explain technology.

The best form or payment for the kids would be candy of course.

Do not go to parks or middle schools and ask kids anything!!!! The world has changed, guys like that are considered pervs. Technology for kids is like asking kids back in the day if they want some candy

What about a friend who has grandson? Or maybe a local boys/girls type organization? Kids love being the expert and showing off their skills.

Or, YouTube. There is a video of everything you could ever need to know.

Thank you...maybe like
the kids I've been yelling "get off my lawn at"...those are options...

What kind of decisions do you want to make?

Pretty much need to know the answer to that before OP can get some real answers so...

Decisions such as equipment and services for being able to view programing...cable isn't available because I'm in the middle of 100+ acres and no access point...

Best 'phone'...I don;t have a lot of needs or interest here and I have an older satellite phone

What kind of decisions do you want to make? Clearly you've moved to having Internet access. Do you want to do they same with TV?

The good news is that while there are a lot of options most of them work pretty well so you won't make big mistakes.

With a computer (probably a laptop) and an Internet connection you can sample a tremendous amount of content.

For a computer you won't need much processing power to get started so you could probably get a Google Chrome notebook (cheap) that will be fine for accessing the Internet.

From there just imagine the Internet is like a library.

Thank you
