Ready or not, this is JJJ's team from here on out

I agree, the Wisconsin game is huge, imo. A loss would hurt, but a win, once again, imo, would make UT a NCAA lock if we finish 9-9, in the conference. That's counting the Kansas game as a loss

I don’t think 18 wins get us in. The committee has always taken injuries into account and we would be 10-10 without turner if we 9-9. I think it takes 10-8 to get in with the SEC being down

Right now we are 46 NET fwiw

I think it will be JJJ and Gaines sharing the load with Bowden pitching in with short spurts. Not one of these guys have a good enough handle at this point to completely take over.

Listen to Wes Rucker's GoVols247 Podcast starteing at about the 23 minute mark where he starts discussing Jordan Bowden being the leader.
GoVols247 Podcast: Sad end to Lamonte Turner's Tennessee career
I was thinking during his last game that Bowden's nickname should be Cupcake, since that's usually when he has his best games. leading doesn't seem to be in his temperment. Would we have any chance at all going forward without him? Doubt it. some guys are just ROLE players.

There are lots of instances where one would think that he shrinks against better competition. Turner was the presumed leader/alpha dog and Bowden was content being a role player. I called him out during games last year because you could see he was playing scared when he got pressured. I wasn't as talented as Jordan, but I can actually relate to him because I have the same temperament. My best games as a player came when I knew I could dominate lesser competition or when someone got me mad. Bowden needs to bring his killer instinct every time he steps on the court beginning next Saturday against Wisconsin. I'm pulling for him because he is the hometown guy.

I'll pull for him too, but can you change your MO after 4 years of doing it one way? Hope so. Barnes has even called him out this season for not fighting for positioning for his shot against better competition.

According to the Grant Ramey article on filling the immediate need, it sounds like James in all likelihood in the meantime with Gaines replacing him on the wing.

Maybe he is simply deferring to other (more) experienced players. Now that is the one with the most experience, maybe he will take on the challenge, the same way that Fulkerson and Pons have thus far this year.

Bowden has to realize this is his team now. He has to become aggressive and when he draws the double, get others involved. James has to stop playing like a timid, shy, freshman and start demanding the ball and making plays like the #2 option he is now. The defensive end of the floor has now become even more interesting imo. Foul trouble is very worrisome and I’m not sure Bowden has the mindset to be the #1 option on both ends of the floor? Man I really want Bowden to step up and become the player we think he can be. But at this point, I just don’t know that he will.
GBO!!

JJJ has the 5 star rating but he doesn’t have the 5 star ego. He is a team guy all the way. He is going to have to be a primary ball handler by default, but it is going to be more interesting who Barnes inserts into the starting five. I hope he goes with Gaines at SF. I really like that kid and he has shown ability to be a playmaker. Right after the Memphis game it seemed they needed to change roles on this team and Turner’s decision is going to force this now. I think we need to play through Fulkerson and Pons, inside/out, and try to score in transition a lot more. We are going to miss Turner more defensively than we are offensively. Will be something to watch because if we don’t defend well, we are toast, because this squad will never score at a high level. Our margin of error is tiny with only 8 scholarship players available. This may be Barnes best coaching ever if we simply make the tournament.
I like being able to play inside out, like the last few years, but need Pons and Fulk and Oliver to be aggressive and take their shots. We don’t really have too notch 3’s shooter but we have some good ones. Interestingly, was at Villanova/Kansas game yesterday and nova shot only 28% from 3’s but they kept shooting them and ended up being the difference for the win. Sometimes I don’t know if we take enough 3’s. But the inside out thinking I believe is best format for this team.

If Plavsic and Vescovi don't play I don't see this team making the tournament. I did a quick glance at the sec schedule and it is hard to find 8-10 wins.
Good thing is most of rest of SEC is a mess this year other than auburn. It’s possible but margin for error is slim. We are going to have to grind out some road wins with stout D.

Bowden struggles sometimes because he draws the other teams best defensive wing defenders every game. He's also the reason we are able to slow teams down because he's a great wing defender. Fans simply don't realize how hard it is to have to guard the other teams best player all while being guarded by their best defender, it's very demanding both physically and mentally. Bowden is doing fine I think and should be the least of our worries.

I probably shouldn’t post this, but I’m starting to worry that we’ve encountered the perfect storm with GW / Bone leaving early, Walker / Burns transferring, UP being ineligible, and losing LT. Could we be looking at an SEC season like Vandy had last year? Even though his shot was clearly off this season, LT brought so much to the table and there’s nothing on the bench waiting to replace it. CRB’s going to have to work some magic for this team to absorb the loss of LT. Maybe SV will be a pleasant surprise?

No matter whose team it is this season is going to be a rough one. As fans prepare yourself for it.
Has Barnes not proven he can put UT in the best position to win time and time again? He isn’t going to coddle these guys. They’ve already had to learn some tough lessons the hard way. If they would just listen and buy into the game plan, they will be just fine. SEC isn’t exactly lighting it up this year.

problem is the rest of the SEC is getting better (USC over VA) and we're starting over. The movement, sync and timing on Offense will take more than a few games if at all to reproduce with an inexperienced PG. Those ally oops and pin point passes to cutters on Saturday were the result of playing together 3 years. Those thinking we suddenly become a slashing to the bucket, pick and roll team and press on are going to be disappointed.

The rest of the sec isn’t getting better. It’s awful. Sure USCe had a shining moment yesterday but Miss state had an awful loss and Arkansas one of the best teams should have lost to a bad midmajor on Saturday

It’s not a top 5 league this year

True, but doesn't change the fact that we're behind the eight ball retooling with an inexperienced PG and an offense that requires movement and ball distribution to be effective. Even with a very bad Wisconsin team coming in I'll be very surprised if we don't drop the next 2 because of stagnant offense and a dip in defensive intensity.
PS Zoe's guys are pulling it together and will be laying for us when we visit MZ.

I think 10-8 in the SEC is the goal and doable. 50/50 shot at getting that imo

Without Turner distributing I think we'll struggle to win more than we lose in the SEC. A double on Bowden, Fulky or James and where do the points come from? Wisconsin could reveal a lot. They're low or middle of the pack SEC. Hope I'm wrong.

JJJ is a PG that was put on a wing. He had an injury that set back his progress of learning a new spot. After being a wing for a few months he's been switched back to his natural position of PG. Now with Vescovi on campus he might end up back at a wing.
