Real Discussion...?

every older generation in history thought the younger generation was unfit to parent. if you read roman/greek/middle age texts you consistantly see references to the younger generation having no morals and screwing things up.
exactly. go back to Andrew Jackson days and the older generations thought their Gen X and Gen Y were the spawn of the devil.

It is a continuous evolution over time in parenting styles and setting the moral compass. That's not what I'm talking about.

I'm referring to people that are plainly unfit to parent being parents. This can be due to mental, emotional, or financial reasons. We have too many parents that "are not" raising children being put in the role of doing so.

What kind of adults are these children becoming when they grow up?

I'm not sure, but I can tell you that my parents were raised by Great Depression survivors in some very financially challenging (read: broke) times, but it didn't preclude their being raised well and going on to raise what I believe are well adjusted and productive kids.

No matter the conditions or setting, parenting can be done effectively.

My parents spent every spare dime they had on their kids. They were broke, but we never knew it.

I see the financially unfit part no-so-much being a question of how much you have, but how it's managed.

I can agree with this.

I just joined the board today when I heard of the politics forum. I was excited by the activity, but that dissipated when I saw how trifling and particular all of the threads are.

Where are the more philosophically-minded political threads, such as gay marriage, abortion, affirmative action, etc.? Hell, anything other than Obama swatting a fly, Glen Beck being crazy, or the stock market being up or down!

Liven up! :salute:

Make a thread of a subject you want discussed. If anyone is interested they will post an opinion.

I've already been beaten about on this :mf_surrender: :)

I only did it the way I did to spark interest, to be extreme to the end of getting discussion off the ground. I could have posted a thread (would have been smarter in hindsight) but I imagined that doing this would agitate some people into responding, and we could all snowball from there.

My apologies. Beginner mistake.
