From a safety point of view it's a great idea. This is a major first step in identifying the adults in the United States. Sundquist opened the door years ago allowing illegals drivers license and some of them are just now expiring.... That damage is going to be hard to overcome unless we have something like this. I fail to understand why people are so scared to allow our government the tools it needs to start protecting us. A lot of you preach about border control and the likes and this is just a step in the right direction. I for one am all for the Patriot act and could give a sh.. less if the government wants to listen to my telephone conversations, look at my library card, monitor what i visit on the internet.. basically, I'm not a terrorist or a molestor so I have nothing to worry about.

what other rights are you willing to give up for safety? How do fewer rights equate to freedom?

So what do we do?? I don't like it, but with all the identity theft and all what are our options?? Driver's licenses are easily duplicated as are SS cards. WE need to do something so what do you guys propose??

You will have databases with mountains of data about all US citizens. Based on some of the recent failures to secure this data, are you still saying it will decrease the threat of identity theft? They had the records of 26.5 million US veterans stolen a couple years ago. Or we could end up like the UK who just "lost" over 25million people's records. I have a hard time handing over info until the gov't can assure the people it's safe.

Instead of a card why dont they just implant a chip in our forhead? Then they can read it when they do an eye scan. That would be great.

I agree fully..Big Brother crap...I have to say, though, wouldn't the ACLU actually serve their purpose more by throwing as big a hissy about this as they do the Pledge of Allegiance?
