Realistic program goals for the next four years.

Probably pretty good expectations but I honestly think you were a little conservative overall, especially with recruiting class rankings. Proof will be in the pudding, but I can see them pulling a top 10 class next year and beyond given their work ethic and the talent they're going after/offering. Concerned about losing that O line too but I think once they get it going winning and excellent classes will take care of everything. Optimistic right now.

 Agree. We have some good players, but as others have said, the ol gone in '14 gives some pause...

2013: Beat Vandy (extremely important for in-state recruiting), make a bowl game, win said bowl game.

2014: Win convincingly on the road against a good SEC team (UGA/USC seem likely), compete for four quarters in every game, win at least 8 games. Finish the season ranked 20-25. Top 15 recruiting class.

2015: Compete and have a chance to win against all SEC teams, win at least 9-10 regular season games, beat Florida. Finish season ranked 12-20. Top 10 recruiting class.

2016: Beat Alabama, make a BCS bowl/playoffs. Finish in the top 5. Top 5 recruiting class. UT is back, *****es.

If it works the way you got it wrote down we will be dancing in the streets.:dance2:

i'm not that far-sighted but here's my take on 2013:

-beat Austin Peay, W.KY, South 'bama, Mizzou, Vandy and UK.
*i know we lost to mizzou and vandy last year; bottom line: we have better players and if this coaching staff is as good as advertised we don't lose to inferior teams like did last season.

-probably lose at Oregon, Florida and Bama. We may have a shot with an overrated Florida team but Bama and Oregon? on the road? no chance.

-We have a shot against UGA and SCAR. both are home games and we were competitive last year. we clearly lost some big time talent but with the new staff and scheme, hopefully it clicks. if so, these become games we can win.

-Auburn is the wildcard. they sucked rhino-a$$ last season but they've still managed to parlay their last NC into top 10 recruiting classes every year. the roster has talent and depth, and now they at least have a solid OC for a head coach. who knows which Auburn team shows up next season!

if we beat the 6 teams we absolutely are better than and split the UGA, SCAR home games...that's 7 wins. get some lucky breaks, pull an upset on the road vs Florida or at home vs Auburn...8 games is possible. that's not where i wanna be but it would show drastic improvement and definitely help recruiting.

just my long winded 2 cents...

Better take 6 and 6 and a Music city Bowl, and win.

Goal for 2013 is realistic, but expect a drop off in experienced talent in 2014, maybe even another losing season that year while depth is being built. Jones can recruit a huge class in 2014 which should be a top ten class on quantity alone, so my expectations for recruiting are somewhat higher than above. Realistic to hope to compete for championships by 2016 IF recruiting meets higher expectations.

Fla will be lucky to win the east while coach Willie is there. They lost a lot on defense this year plus their DC. I easily see 5 losses for them next year. Most of the fla fan base still isn't sold on cwm.

It'd be nice to see the gators return to the days prior to 1990! :birgits_giggle:

Within the next 4 years, I expect us to be competing for the SEC East. Beating top teams. Will we be to the level of winning the east, probably not. I'm just ready for our program to start winning big games and making headway. We should be back in the bowl picture in a couple years and every year we should be going to a better bowl game during the next 4 years.

7-8 wins in 2013 leading to a large and elite 2014 signing class, tough 2014, bounce back 2015, compete for championship in 2016.

By 2016 Butch either has the program up and humming or his days are numbered.

Scary thing is that with the way they recruit they still have as much talent as almost anyone in the country. Were gonna have to severly outcoach them if were going to win one in the next 3 years. Hopefully by then we will have the talent they do if all goes as planned for butch.

All we have to do to beat Florida is two things:

1) Pay increased attention to special teams - punting, punt returning, kick-offs and field goals. They have beaten us here for sooooooo long.

2) Stop that d..n read option. Just stop the d..n thing. Hit the QB every play. Don't take the fake - just hit him anyway - let someone else worry about the RB. Jack him up like a broken down U-Haul truck.

It's really easy when you think about it

Competitive this year with a bowl game.

Win against some of the big boys next year.

In contention for the East, year three.

Top 5, SECCG appearance by year four.

OP if all of that happens I will be extremely happy.

Unfortunately, I'm with the others in the thread that think we're still a while off.

-If we can make a bowl this year, that's improvement enough for me. A win would be nice as well to make it over .500.

-I'd like to see Butch actually fill some holes on both sides of the ball with his first "all Butch" class.

-In his second year I'd like for us to get above .500 again, either with another bowl win, or 7-5 going into the bowl game.

-I think that Butch would have to prove with the next class that we're serious and making moves in the SEC. I don't even care about national recruiting rankings anymore because we could finish top 20 and still land in the bottom half of the SEC. If we finish #7 or higher in SEC recruiting rankings, I think that's making a statement that we're back on our way up.

-Butch should be able to compete in some games hopefully by year 3. 7-8 wins with a signature bowl win would go a long way.

-Again, another recruiting finish in the top 7 of the SEC would provide some consistency on the roster.

-By year 4 we should be back in the 8 wins range. We haven't seen what Butch can do with the team yet on the field, so I have no gauge to which I can associate his success. 8 wins in the regular season is good, 9 wins is great, add a bowl win or major upset and Butch is riding high.

I honestly think that the scenario that I just typed out is really high up there on the "Best Scenario Possible" scale. To think that we'll be BCS competitive within the next 3-4 years is stretching the possibilities of Butch and the team. Maybe it's time for fans to clip the wings on their expectations.

The next 2-3 years aren't going to be awesome, we'll have to find little things here and there to hang out hat on as the team improves.

Unfortunately, at this point, the more elite teams/coaches in the conference have more to do with how soon we'll come back. If Bama, LSU, UGA, SCar, Florida all start to fall off I think we can get a foothold in some of our recruiting areas that we've let slip away. If Clemson, VaTech, Ole Miss, and Auburn trend downwards it would only stand to help us as well.

It's frustrating but we've shot ourselves in the foot and dug a giant hole to climb out of.

Recruiting classes need to jump up to top 10-12 level next year or all of those goals will get pushed back further. I'm encouraged by the way CBJ started on the 14 class while shoring up the 13 class. I hear he has more junior days planned than ever before. Lots of legacy players will help too.

By year 3 we need to be in the mix to win the East. No worse than 3rd place finish.

This is realistic. It will be hard but it's realistic.

I agree with everything you said except Oregon. I believe our Offense Will put up enough points to win this game. If our Defense is even 25% better then last year we have a good chance of winning. it wasn't our offense that let us down last year it was Defense!!! Oregon IMHO is slightly overated...notice I said slightly.

You're high. That is absolute stupidity. Oregon hammers UT.

All this talk about how good our O-line is and how much we're going to suck when they're gone really has me questioning why they're "so good" ? They improved quite a bit in run blocking last year I will definitely give them that. They pass protect pretty well. But I don't think they're the best in FBS and I don't think we'll be screwed when they're gone. The reality is they're statistically awesome because they don't allow sacks. Part of that is because they are good pass protectors. The other part of that is Bray never hung in the pocket long enough to take a shot. He was the queen of throwing the ball away at the first sign of trouble.

I'm not trying to bash our O-line - they're definitely a great unit and we're fortunate to have them. I just think some of you guys painting this doomsday scenario for 2014 when they're gone need to look at it a little more closely.
