Realistic QB situation

But it is. We dunked and dunked and chunked it over heads. Hooker goes in and Calloway takes it home in an explosive play and Hooker gets consistent productive yards with his legs. Turnovers were unfortunate but understandable considering he made it a game when it was looking like a runaway. We get the lead after being significantly behind and it takes that 2021 defense and a bad ref call to prevent a win. I watched the game…pretty well, ACCURATE guy. 😏
How is a game that’s 17-13 looking like a runaway? That was the score when Hooker came in.

Edit: Pitt didn’t get a 2 score lead until the second half, long after Milton was gone. They did that twice as our D couldn’t stop them.

34-20 entering the third quarter. Milton went out after the offense put up 10 and was sputtering…scored 24 with Hooker and Pitt needed help to win.

Uh none of that is accurate. Milton scored 13 in 4 drives. Hooker scored 21 in 8 drives (not counting the “possession” right before the half as it was 1 play). That’s similar production. 34-20 was late in the 3rd quarter and it was 41-27 early in the 4th. It was 27-20 at halftime, which would be entering the 3rd quarter. Yes Hooker cjverted TDs better as we kicked 2 FGs under Milton but we also had a turnover on downs, which is basically a turnover and Hooker had 2 other turnovers himself. I’m not saying we win with Milton but he didn’t lose that game, like some fans erroneously believe.

He wasn’t primed to WIN it. Apparent to anyone not dedicated to arguing a contrary point. Early in the Bowling Green game Milton went off course and never got it back. This from a fan who currently defends him and believes that he could potentially advance the offense further than Hooker if all wheels are spinning properly. We needed a QB to WIN that WINNABLE game…not NOT LOSE it.

We might not have won under Milton but he didn’t lose it either. That was a team effort.

Edit: funny enough Milton actually had a higher QBR than Hooker during the 2021 Pitt game. Turnovers killed Hooker in that one. He certainly corrected that moving forward.

Not doing enough to possibly win but not turning it over> balling out cold off the bench making the offense work and finishing just agonizingly short when it comes to that numbers game stat.

Let me ask all y’all QB gurus a question?
How bout starting that punter from the outback? Heard he could run down kangaroos and throw it almost as far as Joe.

This is not a realistic question

Agreed. Milton did lead scores on 3 drives but 2 were FGs. Given that Pitt scored 41, FGs weren’t going to get it done.

Too bad he can’t kick it half as far as Joe can throw.

The last 2 punts he had in the game last weekend were actually pretty good, and he forced a muffed punt as well. He improved from the first week, and I think he will be a weapon going forward. Being ambidextrous is a big deal, but he’s honestly looked better with his left foot.

Only Milton TD set up by a blocked punt near the goal line…TEAM stuff.

For sure better with left. I trust the coaches. The coaches trust him. The end.

Borrowed from a local radio program:

This is not the first time Joe Milton has squared off against Graham Mertz as the opposing starting quarterback. The two met at the Big House on Nov. 7 in the pandemic-shortened season of 2020 as Mertz relied on a bruising Wisconsin ground attack and Milton was awful and benched in a 49-11 Michigan loss to the Badgers. His stat line was 9-for-19 for 98 yards, no touchdowns and two picks on the first two Wolverine possessions. Michigan went 1-3 with Milton as a starter that season and he transferred to Tennessee.

Hoping Milton is on fire tomorrow.

And none of that has absolutely nothing to do with tomorrows game.

I knew following Hooker would be tough but good grief. Milton is getting close to the record for passes without an interception and we have won the last 4 games he has started 166-40 and people are calling for his head after a game where he three touchdowns and no turnovers.

You do realize he played 3 cupcakes and a highly over rated Clemson team.

The dropped passes show negative on Milton. Clean up the drops and his stats look much, much better

If QB is in SEC play and coach thinks he's the main reason for a looming loss, assuming Nico is healthy, you will ABSOLUTELY see him regardless of prior wins. Milton is too up and down. JMO
Glad your opinion isn't worth anything, coach.

Joe's fine.

If you are running down the field and a ball is thrown behind you and you stop and it hits your hands, sure you should catch. If you’re sprinting across the field wide open and a 90 mph ball is thrown 5 ft behind you, even it touches your hands. Maybe 5-10% chance that’s a catch. Call it hating all you want, not saying he should hit every receiver perfectly every time, but more consistency is really needed for a starting qb on a team that finally has legit sec talent. Honestly think if we would have swapped qb with apsu at beginning of game. Same outcome?
How many have been 5 feet behind the receivers?

That’s what a ton of these guys didn’t see is how bad Tee Martin was at times.
They also don't see how bad the other top you n, like QBs in football are at times either. There isn't a single one that throws 100% perfect passes, ESPECIALLY if they are into coverage of any kind.

Some if y'all need to calm down

We need our WRs to catch balls that hit them in the hands. Joe wasn’t bad yesterday. He had a few overthrows but I counted 6 balls the Wrs flat out dropped.

I counted 4 that should have been caught and 6 bad ones. 50/50 on both needing to step up or we will lose Sat

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Is Milton undefeated at UT while starting a game and finishing a game? I believe Vols would've ended up beating Pitt in Knoxville 2 seasons ago if Milton wasn't pulled for Hendon Hooker.

No way, Hooker was the only reason it was close. Milton was horrible against Pitt. Go back and rewatch it and I bet you change your tune.

Milton is 4-0 with no turnovers since taking over. But the offensive production is down, especially on 3rd down. In a those games we are converting less than 25% vs Clemson and 3 overmatched opponents. I don’t see Milton all of a sudden completing a great % of downfield throws. Do we just live with that?

Nico isn’t physically ready, especially with an OL that is struggling to protect the QB. When do we throw him out there anyway (like Bray or Dobbs)?

Moore is a walk-on but likely able to make some throws Milton is misfiring on.

This 3 way decision may be Heupel’s biggest so far.

My biggest concern is the 3rd downs. That's going to kill our Defense. Gotta get that to 50% and higher.
