Realistically who would we beat? CFP

We can beat anybody ahead of us. There’s not 12 teams better than we are. There’s not anybody that’s head and shoulders above the Vols IMO.
This is the correct answer. We have the talent and experience to be in any game with any of those teams. On the road a challenge? Absolutely. BUT...our team can put together a great game plan and win .....anywhere....anytime...I guess it baffles me how so many fans play these games in their head with what's on paper (and odds, % to win yada yada). Stats matter of course....but we have progressed to a place we can play with anyone. JMO...

I would love a rematch with UGA. Get pressure from dline, block your man on offense and cut out costly penalties and you very likely can win.
Agreed. Neutral field I think we could beat them. Unless they truly just have our number the odds on them playing like that again aren’t great.

Unfortunately there is a huge lack of proof to support your statement. At Neyland, perhaps yes. On the road it’s a different team.
Meh, maybe. Georgia is an elite team, as elite as there is anyways this year in a year with a bunch of flawed teams. Beating them on a neutral field would be tough but not impossible. Arkansas the Oline and Nico just weren’t ready at that point. This team has matured as the year has went on. Not saying they win the whole thing but they’re a very good team.

It's certainly been the best win for Texas
It's pretty telling when the team graphic during the rankings show with two weeks left in the regular season has to list Arkansas as a key win for them. Meanwhile, our loss in a night game at Arkansas early in the season is considered some nearly insurmountable albatross to our playoff chances.

I wouldn't bet on us beating Georgia. Any of the other teams from the other conferences we could handle. Maybe somebody can take out UGA for us and we can 'win' the national title.

Easy to say afterwards. The staple of the armchair
Easy to see if you paid attention. How many stunts and/or innovative blitzes did you see? Not many, certainly not enough. Beck plays well when not under pressure. We did nothing to pressure him and we paid the price. Bama put pressure on him the first half and he played like crap. They didn't pressure him the second half and almost got beat. Ole Miss pressured him and he folded like a cheap suit.

Anyone can beat anyone. The likelihood of certain scenarios are different than others, but I feel confident against any team if we make it in.

Also, I am going to speak it into existence now. UGA won't make it into the playoffs. Haynes King is going to ball out and GT is going to beat UGA in the final week of the regular season, eliminating UGA from title contention.
I want to pull against some teams, but I really just hope we can beat Vanderbilt. When you lean so heavily on the defense as we have all season, there is so little room for error.

So according to you the committee should use Vegas as their means to choose teams?
Fake argument. Vegas doesn't use "neutral field" unless the teams are playing on a neutral field. It's not unreasonable to ask those on the committee to consider who they think would win if the teams meet on a neutral site.

Our problem is playing on the road. That simple. Neutral site we could beat anybody in the field.
Funny enough, it’s the same problem pretty much everyone has. Who actually has big road wins this year? UGA and I’ll say Ohio State, although Penn State likely isn’t as good as their ranking. That’s it among the contenders.

Makes me sick to see Penn state get so much love with James freakin Franklin on the sideline… where is that coming from? Best win was what- Illinois? They don’t exactly get the oh so important “style” points either.

Just thinking through the playoff teams ahead of us or potentially in and how we match up.

I’m categorizing this in : Should beat meaning we’re the better team.. could beat meaning we’re just as talented and it would be a solid game- and might be tough meaning I don’t think we match up well.. I don’t think anyone this year is clearly a dominate team:

Have beat: Bama

Should beat: Penn State, Boise State, Indiana, Miami/SMU, BYU/Colorado,
Notre Dame

Could beat: Bama again, Texas, Ohio state, ole miss (almost put them in the would be tough category)

Would be tough : Georgia, Oregon

Of course doing all of this back to back on the road is a ridiculous task but I think we’re better than 6 of the field, have beat one- and match up well with 10 of the field realistically- none of them are unbeatable though.

What’s everyone else’s thoughts?
Notre dame, Penn state, Colorado, Miami, Boise state. Anyone else would be hard. Don’t think we could go to Columbus and beat OSU.

You can be one dimensional with a great D, and we have one. Our DC just blew it against UGA.

UT does'nt have a great D. UT has a good D. Statisticly, it is very good. But, the D and the DC was exposed when UT finally played a top 20 QB that had struggled in games before looking like a Heisman candidate vs UT's good (not great) D. You can't just run the ball and play good D to expect to win in the playoffs! It won't happen. Especially, when the O also has a lot of penalties at the worse time.

I think Heupel has Tennessee good enough to be at any team. There is certainly room for improvement and that's encouraging. Still a lot of youth on the field.

I was surprised how poorly the Vols played in the trenches and was still in the game until very late. They are certainly better than they have performed at times.
WRONG! You can't beat any team in the playoffs when you can't throw deep consistently and stretch the opposing D!!!

I see you are still delusional. UT's O isn't as good as it was with Hooker. So, the O must get a lot better to be able to win in the playoffs. Nico still can't consistently hit his targets down field. That has been shown time and time again all year. The OL isn't giving him enough time at times either. So, don't act like the O is much improved since Arkansas. Is it a little better? Yes! But, it isn't a lot better to be able to compete against elite teams in the playoffs!

We could beat probably anybody in the field. We could also lose to 3/4’s of the field. Too many scenarios for me to try and envision them in my mind.
Not sure about that. I doubt we could beat Texas, UGA, Ohio State, or Oregon even on our best days. We'd struggle mightily with Ole Miss, Miami and Penn St. Everyone else is 50/50.
