reality check needed in bball thread

You're missing the point. Teams already collapse on us the majority of the time. Smart coaches are more than content to leave us open from the perimeter, because odds are, we will simply beat ourselves if we rely on winning with our perimeter game. We are one of least effective perimeter teams in the country.

The reason we don't drive more now, is there is no room to operate in the paint. Until we find a player or two capable of keeping defenses honest from the perimeter, we will continue to find driving and passing lanes into the paint hard to come by, and we will see a lot of passing 30 feet from the basket.

Speeding up the tempo should give us more transition baskets without allowing teams to set up their defense in the paint.

I see what you are saying. I agree.

Which hasn't helped them at all this year. Their best wins are on the road.

They lost to Marist at home for crying out loud, Butler smacked them by 20.

Actually, Vandy lost to Marist on a neutral court in the Old Spice Classic in Fla. However, they shouldn't be losing to them anywhere and scoring only 33 points.

Vandy will get better as the season goes along and Johnson is a guard that will give us trouble unless Richardson is on him. They have zero post game. They are guard oriented with Johnson and Fuller who both can fill it up. Shut those two down though and you will win.

Ah good call. Well they did get smashed at home by butler, I do recall that one.

Vandy is in full rebuild mode. If we don't get a sweep this year, I'll be disappointed. Winning there won't be easy, but hopefully some of these nagging injuries will have healed by then. I just hope it isn't too late because we play Bama and Ole Miss twice this year instead of once and play both twice in the month of Jan. We just might know our NCAA tourney fate within the next 3 weeks.

I hear ya. But I've said it before and I'll say it again - winning on the road in conference is hard.

Absolutely, and we haven't exactly shown to be a good road team to this point, which makes tonight's game even more important.
We were a bad road team last season.
That's one of the things that's had me so tore up.
We struggled except for a couple of games to put up 50 points on the road with Maymon.
This season we started right where we left off, only without Maymon we struggle to put up 40.
Bad omen.
