Really, Hart doesn't get it and that's part of the problem. We

I think they may have quit on Holly and there's absolutely nothing you can do in that situation except can the head coach.

If they quit on the coach, each other and the fans, I have no respect for them. You either have the fight and will to be the best you can be or you don't. That's not on the coach.

There's simply no way UT can or should fire Holly at this point in the season. She deserves the chance to get things on the right track. Still a long way to go. If UT canned her this early, I'm not sure I'd like the message it conveys to prospective replacements not to mention recruits and their families.

Having said that, I have a hard time seeing Holly as the ONLY problem with this team. Let's be honest here. Even a homer like Dearstone stated they didn't look like they were the least bit interested at times against VT. When do these scholarship players assume some responsibility for their performances? They've been playing for a long time. Surely they know how to pass, shoot, dribble, rebound, play defense, etc by now. Granted the schemes may not be all that grand, but they sure don't impact the effort and desire of the players. Maybe they don't like Holly, but do they not have pride in their school and/or their teammates? Not sure what the problem is, but what we're seeing on the floor is not all Holly. The players bear responsibility for a good bit of it as well. And for the record, I did not want her hired in the first place and do hope they replace her, but she's not in this alone. Players need to step up and play with some passion and pride. Put whatever gripe they have with each other and Holly aside and do what they were given a scholarship to do.

Why is it many fans don't get that if the head coach isn't responsible for the entirety of the program, then nobody is?

It's the responsibility vs accountability argument to some extent. The players are responsible for not being able to shoot or pass effectively (though it is strange that every highly rated HS player forgets how to shoot when they get here). On the other hand, the head coach is responsible for creating an effective offensive system (among many other aspects) for the players that same coach has recruited. So yes, they share (percentages not yet determined) responsibility for the team's sub par performance so far this season.

But in any case, it's the head coach who is held accountable for the team's performance. The buck stops at her desk whether she is responsible for the bulk of the team's problems or not.

I believe the head coach should be held to a great more deal of accountability when it comes to things like turnovers, poor offensive and defensive play, and just the overall state of the program. Sure, the ladies are missing shots and turning the ball over on a constant basis, but it's holly's job to instill some semblance of discipline and confidence to the team and correct all the errors that now seem so chronic. This errors are not just something that just popped up, it's been an ongoing theme since holly took over and even before when she assumed much of the head coaching duties for an ailing pat summitt. The buck stops with the head coach and when she says things like not caring if they ever hit a shot or not as long as they are in a defensive stance, I mean come on..how can a coach be so narrow minded. I'm still not on the fire holly boat yet, but I hope she decides to be a bit more tough on the players and make them more accountable for their mistakes. In the end it'll be her job on the line if these issues continue..

He is the reason a competent basketball coach wasn't hired. I want him to do his job.

heh You honestly think Hart could have blocked Holly's succession to the head job? That deal was sealed LONG before Dave Hart got the AD job here.

We want Hart gone, never to make another decision concerning any Lady's programs.

Wasn't Hart's decision to hire CHW, nor Cheek, Haslam, or the BoT. Or anybody else who doesn't have a statue beside Pratt Pavilion.

Funny how you blue-wearing LV fans can't admit how this CHW situation came to be...and how you embraced her hire with open arms.

So Holly is responsible for missed shots too?????

When you consistently shoot 10% worse than the program you are trying to beat then you have a systemic problem. When that problem remains no matter who the players are even though you are recruiting from the same pool as your rival you are obviously doing things in a fashion that assures you get unsatisfactory results.

The same applies to turnovers.

At some point the players catch on that they are being put at a disadvantage and you lose the team. The debate is over whether we are near that point, not over whether Holly needs to run on the court and shoot for them. It is her responsibility to field a top four team on a consistent basis. That is all that matters. The rest is just details.

And that should be our standard. If you go several years without a top four finish then someone else needs to get a shot. Otherwise we have collectively agreed to accept mediocrity. That is OK for most programs but it should not be OK for the Lady Vols.
