Who in the hell would actually attend this?

because it looks like this year we are actually going to have a lot to celebrate come NSD, unlike the poor efforts of years past. And because of this NSD, we can look forward to better years ahead than are immediately behind us.

even though derelick has tried to make this personal, let me try it this way:

I don't understand paying 25 bucks a pop to listen to coachspeak about incoming freshmen and more promises.

Yes, I'm looking at it that way. My idea would be to celebrate things that matter. We don't even know if any of these kids will become the studs that derelick dreams they will.

I suppose it is just a pep rally of sorts?

I get it, I guess.

I can definitely understand that point of view - but something you are not thinking about and that is from the point of the players themselves. Part of becoming great is having others believe that you are. This early show of support for them is a great thing for the coaches to build them, their confidence, etc - and they are going to need all of that they can get going into this next year.

Believe it or not - I suspect that most of the things Butch and company are doing are NOT targeted at the fans but rather the players and the program - since by rebuilding the program, its inculcates the latent greatness of the players - and the fans kinda take care of themselves

All of these things are fundraisers in a sense. They're designed to build excitement about the future while hoping to get the fans to forget the recent history.

That's not a bad thing, but for the last 5+ years all UT fans have had to hang their hat on is hope. Recruiting celebrations capitalize on hope because at this point that's all there is. We hope these recruits help turn UT's program around. We hope some these recruits can contribute next season.

Hopefully, in the near future these events will be re-loading celebrations.
