Followed by a meltdown on NSD when 10% of the insider troll stuff comes true, and everyone is left disappointed in a Top 15 class pulled by a .500/sub .500 ball club.Vol Nation for the next few weeks:
If referencing a 5*: "Probably a better chance than not he's a Vol on NSD"
If referencing a 4*: "He's ours if we have room"
If referencing a 3*: "Definitely a blueshirt candidate"
Is this an attempt to deflate my recruiting excitement bubble?Current 247 Crystal Ball Projections:
Darnell Wright, OT, Tennessee 50%; Ohio State 38%, Alabama 12%
Owen Pappoe, OLB, Georgia 52%, Auburn 44%, Tennessee 4%
Jadon Haselwood, WR, Miami 53%, Georgia 40%, Oklahoma 7%
Kenyatta Watson, CB, Texas 94%, Tennessee 6%
Quavaris Crouch, RB, Clemson 100%
Henry To’oto’o, OLB, Alabama 100%
John Emery, RB, LSU 94%, Miss State, 6%
Justin Eboigbe, SDE, Georgia 50%, Auburn 50%
My first reaction to your post was "wow, we are really making strides" so I went to 247 crystal ball to confirm it and alas it was not confirmed. Is this an attempt to deflate my recruiting excitement bubble?
You are correct, sir...regarding the high hopes we all had during Butch's tenure, only to see them crumble; not entirely, mind you, but lots of those super-studs eventually wound up with other programs. The caveat to that scenario with CJP and associates is the NFL possibility with this coach and staff, as well as the far more apparent team chemistry and overall optimism...plus lots of potential playing time in storied Neyland Stadium. Will we snag more than 2 or 3 of these 5*s? I'm not betting the farm on any outcome. However, I'm feeling much more confident this time around. You?I feel like Butch's first year we did this same fiasco. Or whatever year carl Lawson came through. We were "in" for a handful and came away with zilch.

Thanks for the in depth and thoughtful response. I follow all the recruits threads so I had a good idea. I liked your OP so much with your analysis I just wanted to get your thoughts. Again, thanks.I think Eric Gray is a slight vol lean at this point, with what was quoted above from VQ as part of the justification for that. I do wonder how the RB position recruiting shakes out if the staff does indeed feel like we have a shot with Crouch and John Emery. However I've seen a few places that we may be taking 28, so space may not be as much of an issue as we all think it is?
I love Gray and would be thrilled to have him, but I'm not sure what the staff thinks about their chances with some of the guys listed above and how they grade out Gray vs Crouch vs John Emery. I think you take 2 of the 3 of those, but the chance we pull John Emery and Crouch out of the hat is less than 5% imo.
If I was a gambling man, I think Gray is a vol and the other two go to Clemson (Crouch) and LSU (John Emery), buy maybe the staff will surprise us. They've surprised me by positioning themselves well with Jadon Haselwood this late in the game. Hopefully more surprises to come
