Recruiting Football Talk VII

Took a look at the football forum and I’d be really sad if that’s representative of our general fanbase. Criticism of Joe is certainly warranted, but can’t our fanbase just enjoy a quality win that our elite defense and running helped us pick up? Joe very well may not be the guy, but that doesn’t deserve 50% of the spotlight right now.
Some people are just miserable pricks and only feel good when they feel bad if that makes sense.

Willie was probably screaming at him the same way I was yelling at my TV. “Go down, the game is over!”

Just dropping in to say that I am baffled by the +8.5 line. Hope the guys use that as us big time chip on their shoulder. It’s honestly a little bit disrespectful, even if it is in Tuscaloosa.

Transitive spread math:
Bama was 4.5 pt favorites at A&M which would translate to ~10.5 pt favorites if it was at home or 7.5 at a neutral field

We were 3 pt favorite at home to A&M so in Vegas eyes we are rated roughly equal to A&M.

8.5 seems about right and shows they have given some credit to our performance and the lower total shows belief in our defense

8.5 sounds about right to me. Neutral field would be 5.5. At Neyland...probably 2.5 or 3.0. Any way you look at it, we would and should be the underdog.

I'm glad we're no longer double digit underdogs.

I agree. However, on a whole, I think as fans, there's a emphasis to dwell on the negative plays Joe made today. I.e. not making a throw downfield on the first offside, or throwing a horrible pick in RZ. Both freshman type mistakes. If Joe is still going to make these kind of mistakes, why not just let Nico do so as well and gain experience? As you alluded to it's not as simple as that, but we as fans like to react to singular plays, and there were a couple WTF moments for Joe today.

TBF, Nimrod and Ramel don't get interfered with multiple times and Joe has much better numbers and at least 1 more TD pass because those were good throws and all TAMU DB's could do was grab receivers arms or the one late in the end zone where the DB was draped all over Ramel with his arm wrapped around him. Ramel's easy drop would have also padded yardage stats.

There were a couple of bad throws, bad decision for INT and indecisive running on 4th down. He ran much more aggressively later in the game. If Joe runs hard, limits bad decisions and throws behind receivers a little less often then we will be able to beat anyone, especially if we get fair PI calls.

A couple of the throws to Nimrod, Squirrel, Warren and Keyton were very good. Get the RB's involved in the screen/wheel/short passing game along with our running game and we will hurt overly aggressive defenses. It can be fixed. If we get the Milton from Clemson last year or UVA this year and we can take down Bama and UGA and have a good shot at SECC and playoffs.

Milroe turning a sack or broken play into a first down or long run next Saturday worries me....especially knowing Bama will be allowed to hold our DL all day.

If you think Heupel will ever truly tell fans what he thinks, then I don’t know what to tell you. He is also a players coach and especially close to the QBs.

A lot of who starts at QB is based on who the team views as the leader and should start. Doesn’t mean they are always the better QB. But that changes when losses start to mount. Luckily we have been winning in spite of Milton.
He is paid to win football games. He will start who he thinks gives him the best chance. That is the only data we have. Of course he won't tell us. All we have to base our opinions on are his actions. If you think Heupel is 23-9 since he's been here because he's lucky, I don't know what to tell you.
