Recruiting Football Talk VII

I agree. Small is a much more complete RB right now. Not a dynamic. But better overall RB. More versatile. That's why he plays more than Sampson. And I am good with that.
Last week I met his grandmother in Charlotte airport. I told her we really appreciate her grandson and think he’s been an outstanding Volunteer.

Probably not a good sign when you are showing up on football scoop.

He’ll get another year in Columbia, thankfully. But our victory in Neyland may be the last time we play SC with Beamer at the helm. A probable losing record this year and another sub .500 season in 2024 will likely be his downfall.

We need to send you to Doc's indoctrination camp.

@VolsDoc81TX - Can McGill come stay with you for a while?
Just imagine Doc and McGee...

Yeah I don't see UK or Mizzou beating us. Especially not UK. Mizzou I guess could beat us, but impossible to say that for me since we've scored 5 million points against them in two years.
On the road?...yeah I can see either of them or both beating us...the passing offense is pure garbage and we don't score points like that anymore.

And I’m saying only three teams have ever beaten him back to back and we’re their 2nd most hated rival coming off talking **** to them for a year straight. They’ll get up for this one.

And we'll play the game. 🤷‍♂️

History means nothing!

We may win big,, win close, lose close, lose big.............. whatever happens doesn't have a thing to do with history!

I just don't see a ceiling with him. He's at best Jimmy Holiday. He's just a guy. Webb is at least big. Still not elite athleticism.

Wouldn't be surprised if we get a portal WR, Leacock and Mike Matthews all surpass Webb and Nimrod.

I'm sure they can be okay, but neither of them will ever be Hyatt, Bru, Tillman, Velus etc. They don't have the body type. Maybe Webb could.
You remember when Tillman and Hyatt were called garbage that were never going to be anything here?....I remember.

The booing was for perceived fake injuries. However, we need to learn not every injury is a fake. The Nolan injury where he was booed eventually became claps when he was being carted off and fans realized it was serious. We have got to move on from fake injuries unless we are playing the Lane Train.

The crowd booed every time the opponent entered Neyland. That’s low class and inexcusable behavior in my opinion.
I understand the misperception of the fake injuries that have happened in the past, but it’s fairly obvious that these were real injuries…
It may have been magnified because I was on the student side, but I am not a fan.
We’re Volunteers! Not gators, bammers, or dawgs dammit.

Is it wrong to say I'm still not sold on Willie? I've not called for firing Banks, but I have WM. Hadden is getting better, but not sold on our secondary yet.

I wouldn't say you're wrong or right. So much more In it than any of us fans know! Is it talent or coaching? I do feel like I've seen improvement!

Disclaimer: I'm only a fan......... couldn't coach a D1 defense if my life depended on it. 😆

No it doesn't and no we don't.
Why doesnt it and why don't we?

A&m was one of the suspected losses in the 8-4 record. They're no longer a risk. Beat the teams projected to beat and lose the others puts us at 9-3, so yeah, it does. Also, UGA and bama have not been dominant teams and we have a legitimate chance at beating either or both of them. If we did that and beat the others teams we're projected to win, what would our record be? So yeah, we have a legitimate shot and 11-1.

Still at 8...but surely to goodness Joe Milton has at least ONE great performance in him...even Levis and Richardson had good-great games....hell even Jarret freakin Gaurantano had a couple of really good games.

Crazy thing to me McGill is if you get some calls that should have happened and catch some passes that should have been caught...... Flat out dropped at least 2 40+ yard easy touchdowns so far........then I'm not positive we'd even be talking about it.

Wth knows! Just wanna see em keep fighting!

Understand. Was the way we were raised. Difference is if we'd have had a world wide outlet at our fingertips we likely would have said some things too. Noone will care what he says if he keeps it up, like ya said, on the field.

I know he's frustrated me at times and elated at others but definitely shouldn't be booed at home!
And being old geezers, we're bound by reality not hypotheticals. Wasn't "fair" that JG gave it all he got (with a fabulous outlook) and got booed for shortfalls. Less unfair imo that Hadden has had his blatant mental hiccups and questionable attitude/effort at times. That gets booed. Wants that to disappear and be praised in 14 years like Eric Berry? Do more Berry things...like put it all on the line EVERY PLAY. Berry had misplays in his career at UT. Don't ask me to recount them because they got lost in his overall work. He's very much capable of achieving that feat...unless he noises it up barking back at anonymous typists and loses focus. Arian Foster fumbled himself into some hate his last season. Worked hard, became a great player in the NFL and then got weird on the newly invented Twitter. Got a lot more legroom with the resume.

And a couple of really obvious face masks on us they missed.

Players make mistakes all game long. Coaches make mistakes all game long. So do refs, who make a fraction what the first 2 groups do, but folks expect differently.

Refs will never be what people want them to be. The end of human refs can't come soon enough. And no, it won't "take character out of the game"...it will allow the score to more accurately reflect what actually happened on the field and both the players and coaches DESERVE that much.
How in the freakin hell do you think a computer can make football calls...this ain't freaking baseball.
