Recruiting Football Talk VII

My confidence in the integrity of college football was very low, it's now pretty much non-existent. It's about as legit as WWE in my eyes.
“Some would say I screwed Tennessee. Tennessee would definitely tell you I screwed them. I look at it from a different standpoint. I look at it from the standpoint of Connor Stallions did not screw Tennessee, Shane Beamer certainly did not screw Tennessee, nor did Jim Harbaugh screw Tennessee. I truly believe that Tennessee screwed Tennessee, and they can look in the mirror and know that.”

Had we been allowed to play defense instead of being held on every single damn passing down things might have ended differently. Other than a few late in the game, we were held every time. Would have had a chance to win have or at worst lose very closely..... even with an anemic offense.
If our receivers weren't held in the endzone on scoring attempts (no-calls) we would have had two more TDs, in addition.

In order to remedy the emissions of cockgate, the NCAA need to change all of our La from last year to Ws and give us a win over Bama this year.

I don't know about all this talk of the outcome of Cockgate.....it's a sticky situation. Gotta be hard on the people in charge. Things could get hairy and take a while to calm down.

So is that the covered-up substance behind the fairly recent firing at Michigan that was pinned on yet a different Harbaugh assistant for something (never disclosed) done on the university's computers? Or was the computer case yet an additional (still suppressed) issue: changing grades, kiddie pron, or whatever else Harbaugh may be into?

A few weeks back someone posted a list from 247 of the top 20 or so rosters by player recruiting ranking. I recall Tennessee at 16, and Bama, Georgia, Ohio State and maybe A&M at 1 -4. Michigan was at 14, and I was thinking- they are breaking the predictable mold of college football. Maybe you don’t need elite talent to win at an elite level. Now this cheating scandal breaks and all is revealed.

And sadly just reconfirms that you need elite talent to consistently win at an elite level.
The other team often mentioned is Clemson, and during their hayday, as Pate mentioned on his show yesterday, Venables was much feared for his staff's ability to figure out signs apparently.

This is so much fun!! An alum who works for the ncaa was the leaker? Cuz he hates the HC he’s willing to risk it all. Let’s see how this plays out
Didn't know the NCAA angle.

So the NCAA knew but did nothing, so the guy leaked the story? Or the guy at the NCAA knew, based on previous experience at the NCAA, that the NCAA would do nothing? So he leaked instead? Or what?

We need top talent. But we would have beaten Bama this year with neutral officiating. Not a doubt in my mind.

I'm sure some would. Some defend any inappropriate, unscrupulous, illegal behavior. Mass cheating destroys, the cheating that's going on destroys the integrity of the game. I guess you can overlook it. I guess integrity doesn't matter to some. I never was attracted to professional wrestling because I knew it was fake. I'm becoming less interested in colleges athletics for the same reason.

That was just a Vince McMahon quote with “Tennessee” swapped in for “Bret Hart.”

The committee would not have matched up UT and UGA in the CFP last year, if UT had won out. UT would’ve been given the 3 seed playing the 2 seed, Michigan.

From a Michigan perspective, you would not want to play Tennessee.

That damning report from John Brice is plausible. If proven true, the punishment should be severe for Michigan and for Shane Beamer.

Look, it's always nothing until it's something.

- Two teams named directly as being scouted were Tennessee and Clemson
- South Carolina inexplicably had two amazing (some would say out of character) games against these two teams. Then immediately went back to being garbage.

It's obviously circumstantial and extremely unlikely but with as crooked and money hungry as this sport is now, it's also not outside the realm of possibility something crooked did happen.

I know a P5 staff that changed all sideline signals when playing Clemson with Venables on staff. He and staff were very good
