Recruiting Football Talk VII

JMO - TL;dr. After reading posts for weeks on here, I just think some of us need to take a step back from short term thinking about how to solve everything.

I believe we will keep seeing the maturation of Heup, the roster and staff as we go. He's a relatively young HC in terms of age and experience. We knew that when he was hired. Whether that will happen to the extent we desire will be determined over the next three seasons IMO. Our fan impatience will not change that process other than potentially harm it. We need full commitment into NIL and donations to the program. We are in THE big boy conference. You cannot fake your way through it to the top. You have to recruit, develop, scheme and play call well to succeed. Posers self identify quickly.

Heup has delivered three straight bowl seasons with one #6 ranking. He has learned a great deal. Roster and coaching staff shortfalls have dictated his approach. He has been right about some decisions and wrong about others, which happens with every coach as well in our own lives. Make adjustments and move on.

The facts are our program was bent over by the NCAA investigation for three seasons. That has been removed as an issue. What is still an issue is the mistreatment of the program by officials and B-Ham's response/nonresponse to same. That has to be addressed from the top. I trust Boyd and the university to do so.

NIL, transfer portal and the expanded playoffs are the open doors to walk through to elite relevance. We will now see if Heup and staff are up to the task. Make the roster additions, changes to staff and adjustments of scheme to fit the roster and address the competition. In my opinion he should get three more seasons before any consideration of change unless he tanks like Botch did.

The key thing to watch will always be too much acceptance of mediocrity due to loyalty to a player(s) or staff member(s) or system (his baby) by the HC. The willingness to change and adapt to conditions on the ground in every aspect of the program is the key to success as has already been demonstrated by those programs who are having success at a high level. Nobody in CFB has ever done that as well as Nick Saban IMO. However, you should not do it "their" way. Be you, just follow proven principles for winning as what we already have with Neyland's Maxims. Apply these timeless principles across the board and take the long view. That builds the culture of excellence needed to succeed at a high level year after year, decade after decade.

Have a good day fellow Vol fans.

Cam said he might get some extra run in the bowl game
He should. I hope we get a good look at next year's team in the bowl game. Give the 1st half to this year's guys and the 2nd half to next year's. Our offense is gonna be filthy next year.

Hope Cam breaks one, so everyone can see his speed. A lot of casual fans are gonna be shocked when they see a guy his size moving as fast as he does.

all you need is 8 for the playoff. 4 is not enough, 12 is too many, especially with how they formatted it. i don't care that Liberty won a conf. they got no shot and it's a competitive advantage for the non-top 4 seed that gets to play that team at home in a playoff game. maybe even more so than getting a bye.

plus, if you look at who's ranked below Oregon, we've already seen Ole Miss v UGA and Bama. we've seen Mizzou v UGA, we've seen PSU vs Mich and OSU.

granted you cant get away from all possible rematches, but if you're at the end of the season and you are a top 8 team and/or won your P5 conf, you're probably both qualified and capable of winning a title.

to me, i think what you want to get away from is the scenario that allows a PSU or Mizzou or Ole Miss 2nd and 3rd opportunities to play for a national title, when all of those teams already played for and lost those opportunities in the regular season...that's WHY those games were so big at the time.

if the losers still get in..............who freaking cares who won?

Oregon is the anomaly for this year, we've seen OR v Wash 2x....still a good team. but should Wash have to play them a 3rd time to win a title?? if i'm a bama fan, i'm not excited about potentially playing UGA...again or Mich having to play OSU...again.....anyway you get the idea.

we go from what was this year, where those games all really mattered, both in the regular season and conf title games.....to "everyone still gets in".

and who really gets screwed? Oklahoma. 10-2, #12, and you're going to the Alamo bowl because...........Liberty.
You hit the hammer with the nail for.

Oregon has played Washington twice, they lost both times, do they really deserve a 3rd shot?
Mizzou's best win is a bad K state team, what have they done to actually prove they are good?
Penn St had 2 chances against playoff caliber teams this season and looked as pedestrian as possible.

It's ridiculous.

I need those in my yard if they’ll eat the Joro spiders. FYI - they’re headed north Tennessee residents…

Wright sits out and Small hits the portal, it’s already the Sampson/Seldon show.
While I'm excited by the duo of Sampson and Shedon, that's a tough ask against that Iowa defense. Perhaps our pace and spread will create lanes and mistakes? In any event, while I'd like 9 wins this year, next season is the focus. If small and wright are out, so be it.

@Enki_Amenra you know, thinking about it more. I’m pissed. Ridley would have hit if that penalty at the end didn’t happen, then they would have ran it in with Travis for those 3 yards I needed. My **** would have hit if it wasn’t for that penalty

I’m not worried about Iowa in the least. 30-10 game
