I’ll also add some perspective for everyone to consider that when all is said and done in Late Jan when you factor in player retention keeping young guys out of portal, bringing back older potential NFl draft players, HS recruiting class and high impact portal additions we will likely be one of the top 5 or so programs overall for this cycle.

So we are all complaining about an overall pretty high level job by everyone involved.
i'd agree with that. but where's the beef?

you know what i mean.

My current Spyre concern is: are we paying current players the way we promised to pay them? A lot of athletes have accused their prior schools of not paying. We've seen it at A&M, UF, Miami, etc. I think since we've retained a lot of guys that probably indicates we are doing our jobs there.

Read this…

If we did indeed truly offer him 7 figures, then we now have it available and throw it at this kid or use it in the portal. It's out there now... we know we have money to spend, we just don't seem to be spending it. Not liking what I'm reading about this staff's recruiting style either... everyone's been a smartarse throwing it out there, but there may be some weight to "staff can't close"...

It's interesting.
1. I'm not in love with Torontos roster so I'm not sure he's going to a contender, a decent team yes, playoff maybe but I don't see a WS team.

2. It is kinda smart though if he goes there it opens up a whole new world of advertisement and making money. He will have fans in Japan, US and Canada which is pretty wild to think about.
I disagree about team...
They got Vlad Jr., Bichette, nice CF and some more than adequate hitters....
Pitching isn't bad either ,Gausman, Berrios and Manoah pretty strong at top of rotation...
Plus a decent closer...

They just have underachieved past couple of years....

Ohtani could put them over the top , even though he will not pitch this upcoming season...

I agree. Blue Jays are definitely a contender if they get Shohei. 89+ wins 3 years in a row. Playoffs 3 out of 4. They're already on the cusp, this pushes them over.

We will probably get a little steam with the guy, fans will get excited and he will go somewhere else. Then we will get the “well I am just glad we are in these battles now.” Or the cliche, “we will see him in the portal in two years.”
Or the ever popular our NIL sucks.

I understand not making a move for making a moves sake. But it makes me think there isn't a guy in waiting or interested that blows CJH away.

Or maybe I'm just looking at it differently than he is.
I think a lot of us are looking at it differently than he is. He's making the big bucks for being right... so I hope he is.

We definitely tried hard…unfortunately a great NIL package is what it takes to just get in the door for most recruits nowadays unless you are one of the current royalty. But I’ve learned this cycle multiple times we can have most robust offer and still lose.

I’m not shading our coaches because in the end I think their recruiting approach is why we don’t see major roster turnover at TN BUT there still has to be a little hot sauce on their end. I think at times they use TVC power as a crutch and assume they’ve got the deal closed and don’t do enough hard selling on their end.

That’s more of an outside observation and I don’t have that on the record just strictly my thoughts.
It should be noted that he also turned down OSU, Oregon, Bama, Florida. And had it not been Colorado, I would think it would have been us beating those others out. So not a whole lot of room to complain in the guys we’re missing on.

And even the thought that if we had beat uf and mizzou/bama during the season that it would have made a difference, not sure I buy that since most of this class was decided more or less by end of August.

All things considered, staff performing at a high level. Going to need to break through the ceiling to run with Bama and uga every year. Don’t know what’s needed for that to happen, but a tsunami of momentum needs to be created with the portal and the 2025 class, and followed up with a playoff appearance in my opinion. If I’m Heupel, I have hard decisions to make. Because being really good isn’t enough. So who’s not able to help us break through to the next level? They need to be replaced. A risky decision and not easy, but that’s why you get paid millions per year. And it doesn’t seem to be our style but there might need to be some more pressure applied to some of these recruitments, whatever that entails. Make it impossible to say no.

Vlad is part of the reason I just dont love their roster. His numbers have dropped pretty good over these last two years, and with his weight issues I'm just not sure he's as serious as he needs to be.
