Recruiting Football Talk VII

You're right-- we're not a "win at all cost" program and that's top-down. Our rivals are. You're also spot-on that UT is having to recruit around the perception that UT football is a next-tier down program-- not elite. They're having to chip away at this-- and proving it on the field is the path. The losses to UGA and Bama aren't as detrimental as losses to programs like UF and Mizzou. If UT had beaten UF this year, it would be a different narrative.

That said, I think recruiting reflects this staff's philosophy more than anything else. They prioritize keeping the players they have (and want) and bringing in guys who fit their profile and can be developed up the depth chart-- along with select plug-and-play portalers who fit very specific needs.

.

JMO, I think this is the best approach. It’s not sexy but is critical to changing the culture of the past 15 years while also addressing scholarship reductions. Way better than the Kiffin, Butch and Pruitt approaches that ended in disaster.

I've turned down a 15k offer for it already.

I've got 6k into the hood and paint. it's mechanically sound , doesn't leak a drop. Has 270k on it now. Motor and trans were replaced in 2016. It's a 1994 .

Can get a complete new motor for 3k. I'll gladly replace anything that breaks going forward.

I refuse to pay 60k for the new plastic trucks.
Im like you, new trucks are overpriced. I'm happy with a mid-90s truck that i can actually work on when something happens. Still, the new trucks are nice, but I'd have it torn up in a month.

You can get a new 2024 Yukon base model for only $73,500 👀🤦🏻‍♂️

Interesting that these guys are showing up on campus for visits prior to receiving offers or even seemingly being on our radar.

It's as if the coaches have an actual plan and aren't considering the fanbase opinion on which players we should be recruiting at all! How dare they?
Also keeping it pretty tight-lipped. The only time we ever know a player has gotten an offer is when they post and half the time we don't know a player is visiting until they're already on campus.

Much less do we know who we've talked to and negotiated with. So to say we "aren't being aggressive" is nonsense.

McCall threw for 1919 yards with 10 TDs and 6 INTs this season, was hurt and only played in 7 games. He was a product of Chadwell's system more than anything I think not sure how good he'll be stepping up in competition to play in the ACC.

Also looking at what Salter has done with Chadwell has me really wishing the kid had been bought in to Heupel... could have been special here.

2750 passing yards 31 TDs 5 INTs
153 carries 1064 rushing yards 12 TDs

Monthly payment would be over 1k a month for a new truck like that.

I'll have this yukon till the day I'm gone, or some goon runs a light and destroys it.

I've had so many thumbs up, hell yeas, and damn that's clean. My wife didn't believe me, until the first time she rode in out one night. We were leaving walgreens , as I was pulling out a dude hollered from walkway " nice truck"!

Not sure what to think of McCall to NC State. He was so good in Chadwell’s system, but this last season was really lackluster.
If you can get pressure to him, he will make mistakes. He will throw some int's. If he has all day to sit back in the pocket, he will pick teams apart. Not a great arm but decent enough. The problem at Coastal is they ran him a bit too much and he would get hurt. Decent speed but nothing electrifying.

Good decision making is a learned skill. Mrs. Glitch made some poor ones when she was younger that she is stuck with for the ressssttt of heeerrrr liiiiiiffffeeee!
Cant imagine what decisions she could possibly be referring to. Who doesn’t want to hear a “that’s what she said” every day for the rest of their life?

I was gonna say, I hope you like talking to people. Dad and I fixed up a Tahoe about the same year as your Yukon and we couldn't get gas without someone wanting offering to buy it.

I'm working on a 96 Bronco now...and it looks ROUGH. No rust, but more than a few bent panels and trail scars. People still say something every time its out.
