Mickey was timed at 3.1 secs which would be considered slow for nowadays…. i am assuming that he was faster than that and the way they timed guys made him seem slower than he actually was. It is an interesting discussion… i have often wondered which guys would be as good now… which ones might be better in this era…. and which ones would just be considered average in todays game.I’m going to assume this was just a discussion prompt, and not a serious question.
Mickey Mantle had 4 second speed to 1st base - paired with 500 ft power from both sides of the plate. He could do things in any era.
Guys like Mickey Mantle & Bo Jackson weren’t made in a lab, they’re not the effect of hard work in the gym. What they are can’t be re-created.
They’re the result of the Thunder Gods reaching down and touching them at birth.
Should say “sub 4 second”. And yes, I’ve seen the stories of 3.1Mickey was timed at 3.1 secs which would be considered slow for nowadays…. i am assuming that he was faster than that and the way they timed guys made him seem slower than he actually was. He definitely sounds like the type of athlete that would still be great today.Should say “sub 4 second”. And yes, I’ve seen the stories of 3.1
Ichiro was timed in the 3.7 range.
