I think that game will feature some serious "Who cares less" oneupsmanship. A stinker that illustrates the real reason we are going to the 12 team format.
Bowl games will be obsolete within 5 years.

Cut season off after last game. Conference championships go bye bye.

Make the season count.

Bowl games will be scrimmages.

Jmo, but I think in the long run, playoff expansion will all but eliminate non-playoff bowl games.
Take it a step further. I believe conference championships will matter less. Why play in a conf champ game if you're already ranked in the top 12? Unless you're playing for home field advantage, then it doesn't matter. And risk injury to a star player. Just like the basketball tournament means zero, unless you're trying to make it to the tournament.

Transfer portal definitely making bowl picks harder. Teams way different than the ones seen in-season. Nuts with so many decent lower-level teams losing transfers that they can't get replacements before the bowl game for, eventually a team will have to forfeit a bowl because they don't have enough players.

I don’t know what the solution should be, but having the 1st signing period, transfer portal and bowl/playoff games during December and January is a disaster. The obvious is to only have a one time of the year transfer portal and have it after the second signing period until say August, but doubt that will happen.

So teams that think they can’t make the playoffs will quit sooner in the year? Doesn’t sound fun at all.

The upside is huge though.

Instead of ~8-10 teams vying for the playoffs down the stretch, suddenly you have the entire top 25.

Which also means a slew of late season opponents trying to keep their rivals out of them, even if they stink.

The best way to increase player interest in Bowl games is to pay them. Let each team dress 70 players. Loser gets 10k each - winner gets 25k each
Maybe so - but idk what the bowl's perspective would be monetarily paying $3mm to ensure every player shows up v a few not.

Jmo but all of this is quickly barrelling towards employee status and contractual obligations. Also answers the portal.
