Maybe they paid him more than enough to put up with all that. It doesn't work out? He's rich anway. But also, I'm sure his ego is big and he believes he can follow in Saban's footsteps.

With all that said, I'd think staying in Washington makes more sense as well but don't have all the details.
I already quoted the math since he's been a HC. His average tenure for a position is like 2.5 years. Climber of the highest degree. The question to ask is can he sustain it at a place where they already have a vision? All the other places he rode in and sold them his vision. I hope the gumps and Saban meddles. It is hard to replace a charismatic leader. Google the history of failures.

Which is why I'd think twice about trying to follow in the steps of a legend like Saban. But again, he'll be rich either way so maybe that's enough for him. What's his buyout again?

People tried to claim I wanted him hired because I pointed out the obvious.

1. He was the best choice for Bama by like all measures.

2. He has nothing to lose.taking all of Bama's money.

3. He could have lost his shine staying at Washington without Penix.

4. He has shown a propensity to be an icarus.

5. Let's hope Bama is where he regresses to the mean and melts his wings.

I'm betting he doesn't last long at Bama. Really tough act to follow and several programs are on the rise. Now comes Texas and Oklahoma.

All smiles now...

Come that 4th game, however...whenever those waves upon waves of inbreeding and illiteracy come crashing down onto their heads, and they can't understand a single word being shouted at them. They will be comforted for a brief moment, though, a glimmer of hope...not seeing a hint of teeth gnashing, for there are no teeth; but, then, they will catch the smell of trailer carpet covered in dog piss, the smell of stale Winston's and Viceroy's, mixed with meth smoke for extra intensity. The nonsensical shouting that is emphasized with free flowing spittle (for, again, there are no teeth), it will rise to a crescendo. A knock-off houndstooth will slap the youngest DeBoer in the face...the daughter will remind someone of their sister...the frenzy of a George Wallace rally; then, yes, mama DeBoer will realize, "my god, what have we done". All the while, Coach DeBoer will be summoned to Saban's office, to be critiqued on what not to do against UGA and the rest of the SEC...lectured for the 233rd time about "The Process"...made to kiss a bust of the Bear...then he will be sent home to a house that has multiple for-sale signs in the yard, and the words, "Go back to California, you lib-tard! ROLL TIDE!!!", painted on the front door.
