Recruiting Football Talk VII

When your head coaching record is 104-12, you must have some chops. He may not have been on the top of the list but who, on the list, has a better record? I think that record alone, made his a candidate. Keep in mind, if you believe what's been reported, he was probably their third choice.
When being considered for the Alabama job, I'd put very little, almost no, stock in an NAIA record. That's a totally different world than D1 football, much less elite D1 football. His record is really 37-9, which is still super impressive. I do think it is worth noting that DeBoer has only HCed at a couple of places that at the time were turnaround jobs. That makes his 37-9 record even more impressive, but Alabama, of course, is anything but a turnaround job.

I just think that someone like Lanning or Sark would be a better fit given their past experience. Lanning is similar to DeBoer in that he has a short, but impressive, HC track record, but I think Lanning's resume/work history is better. He's worked in the SEC and is a great recruiter. He also took over at Oregon, which was very much a "let's keep up this good thing we have going" job at the time and not a turnaround job.

When you get down to it, the best combo of 1) fit for the job and 2) would take the job was probably Lanning.

It means that you're beating everyone on your schedule on a regular basis.
NAIA and FBS are totally different. He’s 37-9 in FBS, which is still impressive, but do I think a 37-9 coach with the recruiting background he has will be successful at Bama? I certainly hope I’m correct when I say: no, I don’t think he will be.

DeBoer going 8-4, is like going 6-6 to Bama fans especially if they lose too..

1.Georgia
2.Tennessee
3.LSU
4. AUBURN..

Losing to those 4 teams in year one, the sky will be perpetually falling..
Music to my ears. I’m giving my Bama friends some breathing room to grieve, but come February the verbal assaulting and ridicule begins.

I think Beboer is a good coach but you no longer have the Bama advantage of 5 star backed up by 3 more 4 or 5 stars. Plus, following Saban was a mistake. He should have waited out Harbaugh leaving, that would have been a better fit for him. He actually has northern ties.
Oh, wouldn’t it be funny if he dumped AL for MI?

I’m in a wait and see mode with Deboer. Maybe he will do fine, at the end of the day Bama has resources and maybe it can work. But I’m hoping for an epic fall from grace for that program and if it happens I’m piling on.

The NAIA record being touted feels like fools gold reminiscent of when Butch was hired here. He had success at other places and looked good on paper, but when he got to the big stage it was evident he was way out of his element and nothing more than a mid-major used car salesman.

Here is to hoping this is Bama’s Butch Jones. When it doesn’t work out I’m sure Heupel could use a coffee fetcher for $30K a year while Bama continues to pay his buyout.

#TrustFundFans giving up college football. This sentiment is all over their boards.

This all came about because the NCAA lost a lawsuit. Players wanted to get paid because they were generating tons of money for the universities and the NCAA. Someone will try to put lipstick on this pig but the end result is that it'll still be a pig.
