It is not linear relationship or a direct proportion. More awards/better stats don't directly correlate with a similar increase in the team's performance in the tournament. It increases the probability but there is no direct line relationship.
You may very well have the best car on the track but there are other factors in winning the race. It could come down to a bad pitstop, getting caught in a wreck, or throwing a rod. I believe we have the setup, we just need a few things to go our way.

My wife and I were having a conversation the other day about Vikings and I mentioned Rudolph the Vermillion was famously known as one of the earliest weather forecasters. My wife chortled, "Vermillion!" What does that even mean and don't even start about weather forecasting. I responded that Vermillion is a synonym for Red and that Rudolph the Red knows rain, dear.
