Pat was one of a kind. The sooner they realize that and quit trying to find Pat again the better off they will be. Hopefully Kim comes in and hits the ground running.

I get it. The issue is, he has not provided that. He just fired a coach for not being able to recruit at an elite level and hired a coach with even less experience in getting the kind of players the LVs need. And she will be forced to recruit out of the portal immediately. So we'll see.

He fired a coach for not being a very good coach that could not recruit a a high level so it wasn’t going to get better.

Program is in shambles so none of the best coaches were going to take it.

You hire a good coach. If she can’t recruit well enough at least the program will be in better shape to attract a more successful coach next time.

I really like the hire but wasn’t someone in here saying it would be a hire everyone would like and A+ and all that? Some crazy names were thrown around.

It was all speculation. SF did say that Gottlieb was the 1st choice but she was committed to that #1 class she had coming so no offer was made to her. After her was Caldwell. I’m all in on whoever DW hired because the guy knows what he’s doing. I do like Caldwell and what she brings.

Our AD is a fan of offense no matter the sport.

He’s a salesman and offense sells. As a fan I’m all for it.

Nobody had much info. DW lone wolfed this, and the circle was tight. Check-in calls are always made, but these top names were never coming. They have good setups where they are. This was not a long-term plan. It was in response to late developments impacting recruiting and NIL. I knew DW was going in a different direction and did not expect it to be a name hire-- rather, someone with room to grow. I thought it was someone else until Friday.

You mind saying who you thought it was? Just curious.

Remember:
Butch Jones and Lane Kiffin were popular hires. Scott Frost was the crowned savior at Nebraska.
Jimbo Fisher was a home run for A&M.
Dave Serrano was a hugely popular hire.

Leipold was a nobody winning D3 national titles before Buffalo. Oats was seen as an easy cop-out hire who was a high school math teacher just 2 years prior at Buffalo. Heupel was viewed as White failing and bringing his boy with him from UCF.

Being popular or unpopular to the fanbase has no precedent. It's not a predictor of success. We, as armchair AD's, have no idea if Caldwell is the worst hire in major UT sports history (though I find it extremely unlikely) or if she's going to have us playing in a Final Four in the next 5 years before going on a legendary career continuing to average >.800 record.

I do know Danny White comes from a basketball family. He knows the game. He knows it when he sees a coach who has "it."
