Recruiting Football Talk VII

DW is weak for supposedly firing a coach based on external opinions, but should also fire TV because she doesn't like the image of the baseball team.

Broolyunt. just broolyunt.
I wonder what she thinks of the Mommy hat that the Lady Vols Softball team puts on in the dugout after they hit a home run.

From doing research on Kim's coaching.
1. Presses the entire game on misses and makes from her on team. Outcome is more possessions and shots per game over their opponents. One game they had 50 shots more that the other team. It doesn't matter what your shooting percentage is if you get 50 more shots.
2. Offensive rebounding is a must. Outcome again is to get more possessions and more shots. than your opponents.
3. Shoot a lot of 3 pointers. High octane offense that scores a lot of points. Just keep shooting if they are not falling because they will eventually.
4. Subs a lot to keep people fresh on the floor to press.
5. Doesn't like to call timeouts. Wants to wear the other team down.
6. Wants her teams to be in better physical condition than the other team. Again, to wear the other team down.
7. Blocking out on defense. If you don't block out, she doesn't care if you are the best player on the floor you are coming out of the game.
8. Her philosophy for coaching is to coach them hard. She tells the girls to "hate me now, but love me later". Hold them to a high standard and if that standard is not met in practice, then they have to get on the line. In other words, she will make them run sprints.

Immediate concerns:
1. Do we have the athletes to do this? She will have to recruit and pull portal players to do this style.
2. Can we get bigs to do this style and play bigs from other teams on defense. See Iowa against South Carolina's bigs yesterday.
3. Will this hold up in the SEC and D1 to get you at a championship level. If not, will she be willing to change a little to get the best results long term.

Conclusion: I think she can be a success here and win a lot of games and beat a lot of teams, but can you beat the elite teams. We shall see, but her resume is amazing. I'll be rooting for her and the team and hope she can bring them back to prominence.
Some of that is the Heup philosophy in football. We love that, it wins games and it helped us beat Bama two seasons ago. Don't see how it will not translate once she builds her roster. There is a lot of Pat in her about being in shape, discipline, tough D and boxing out.

Let's roll...

If I was married to a woman making $750,000 a year, I would be on a river bank fishing 7 days a week.

But that's me. 😜😜

Same here. Though some people are built different. I knew a guy who married into a billionaire family. He chose to work an office job as a “buyer” just to stay grounded. Apparently traveling the world and having all that free time eventually lost its luster. I’d still find a way to make it work.

Men are wired to provide. Though I’d like 6 months to test that theory.

But for real, DW, imma need you to give RB a lifetime contract or something. Last thing I need is UK offering Rick Barnes some mega deal

Can’t handle a heart attack
The thing is the way Barnes builds will take time and I'm just not sure that Barnes wants to spend 2-4 years rebuilding a team into what he is looking for. Plus, not sure they would let him have close to a .500 season without the seat starting to get hot.

Anyone thinking Arkansas is in a worse spot with Cal than Musselman is crazy. Despite making a sweet sixteen and elite eight Arkansas's highest final AP ranking was 10th in the Musselman era. He went 111-59 for a 65.3% and made the dance only 3 times in 5 years. Cal is closer to Nolan Richardson and Eddie Sutton than Musselman. Only twice in 15 seasons did Kentucky miss the big dance and one was the shortened season post COVID.

Hogs are upgrading big time, kinda surprised they were able to land him but he has ties to one of their biggest donors in the Tyson family so not too surprised.

Seems like a situation where the admin/AD went after their people and then the big money donor said "Call Cal and we'll make sure we get him"
Cal is going to want to prove Kentucky messed up by wanting him gone. So for at least 2 years they will get the best version of Cal.

Conclusion: she is Rick Barnes.

With the pay raise she's getting. . . I'd be surprised if he doesn't buy a john boat and fishing rod and find a pond to sit on all day before his pilates class.

Edit: Swanson'd by @knoxvol52
I hope his goals are higher as far as a boat goes. I can advise him in that regard.

With the NIL money he’s going to have at his disposal he won’t fully change, IMO. I still bet he goes after one and done elite recruits but leaves more than enough money left afterwards to look for elite transfers to take them over the top and supplement the freshman. 5-6M a year in NIL can go a long way. Either way though, Cal has never won because of his brilliant Xs and Os.. he’s won because of his talent. In my opinion, the SEC and MBB in general is better than it’s ever been. The one and done route hasn’t worked well for Cal lately because of this. I think he’s going to need to be head and shoulders above in talent level like he used to be to get the results that Arkansas thinks he can get. He can, and he has enough NIL to do so, but will he? Idk. For 8M a year in salary, and 5-6M year in NIL, he better get results.. and quick.
He's already tried that the last few years. Bottom line: his defenses are crap.
