Recruiting Football Talk VII

I feel like we're in a "chicken, or the egg" quandary with recruiting RBs and offensive linemen.

Back in the Fulmer glory day, the assurance of quality blockers year-in and year-out certainly made Tennessee a draw for great running backs. Every HS running back surely knows the latest stats on how many hits in a career a RB can sustain.

I think Heupel has done the best he can under the circumstances, by demonstrating his willingness to spread those hits over 3 running backs each game, so that they always get to perform fresh, and with limited accumulation of college career hits before NFL dreams beckon.

But he needs a succession of above-merely-adequate O-lines to reel in the trophy fish.
it's the scheme more than anything

Looks like an onside kick. Kickoff team was getting after it, so they seemingly knew where it was going.
I think I accidentally started that talk when I said they should have kicked on-sided so it only need travel 10 yards and it would have given her a chance to be a hero. I assume the kicking team was getting after it because it was a live ball and could be recovered or returned.

But an on-sides kick from the 35 to the opposite 43 (22 yards and a pop fly) might not be worse than a kickoff to the 43? It was just a bad play. People make bad plays sometimes. It really makes no sense that people are tweeting about it.

Karic is tiny and he gets pushed around

Out of all the transfers we got his really made the least since and it looks like there is a reason why nobody was excited about it. I guess we have needed him, but it would be hard to convince me that we couldn't have gotten someone way better.

Dont'e is a disappointment, but it at least made a lot of sense.
We need to get past the "we don't do bidding wars" mentality. Sometimes, players are worth bidding wars. And when you refuse to play that game, you have to settle for leftovers.

100% what were doing is good not great. could be great, but it isn't

Are there any offensive line coaches (pro or college) whose reputation would be enough to get us to the next level in recruiting or the portal?

Or are we in a good spot with Elarbee and just need to be patient?

Lol. Somebody put that old man in a home. He’s confused.

Why would the coach at Ohio St talk about Michigan, on Notre Dame’s field after he just got done bending them over 😂
In truth, Lou has always been just like this. He hasn't aged a smidgen. His speech now is a little less slurred.

I think something along those lines will occur with OL this cycle. But it's not especially helpful to broadcast.

If this game was on Halloween I’d be on board. But also, I was curious to see what it would look like so I made the mockup
It would be better around Halloween but I'm not crazy about checkerboarding Neyland with anything other than orange and white.

(It was a cool mock up. 👍)

Our OL has been one of the most improved OL units in the country the past two seasons. He’s replacing some key starters this year and had two starters out vs UF. Y’all need to chill
