Yep. My guess is he will take the high road and say he was in the wrong, unless of course his lawyers tell him to not comment at all. I think he thought they were just some "security" folks and not police. Whole thing is just unbelievable. For some reason I thought he was supposed to be the nice guy. I don't follow golf, but I had that impression.
I'm not a police hater, but there are definitely some bad eggs. I've only had a few interactions with police, but the ones I've had, they always led with belligerence. I definitely had to fight the impulse to clap back at them, which just shouldn't be the case if nobody has done anything wrong yet. Reminded me of high school bullies, only you go to jail if you stand up to them.It sounds like driving slowly by an officer and then stopping when the officer jumps onto your car is considered assault on an officer.

Scottie Scheffler arrested while trying to enter Valhalla, released before Round 2 of 2024 PGA Championship
The No. 1 player in the world was detained outside the golf course Friday morning following a chaotic incidentwww.cbssports.com
One would think that DE-escalation would be in an officer's toolbox.
Yah. Sounds/looks like the police egos flashed and then the blue line circled.Yep. The ESPN reporter was told by the cop " he is going to jail and there is nothing you can do about it". Then a few minutes later, they come back to him and ask him to verify who they arrested.
I'm sure the officer said, "he hit me with his car" haha. In fairness though, Scottie could have just ignored the officer and proceeded through the gate. Still shouldn't have escalated that much, but we don't know how courteous he was or not.Yah. Sounds/looks like the police egos flashed and then the blue line circled.
The article reports that it was initially a confusing and chaotic exchange. The first step of de-escalation is generally pausing and seeking clarity.
Seems like as soon as Scottie stopped, the officer could have said, "Hey, I told you to stop. Where are you going?" Scottie: "I'm sorry. I was confused. My name is Scottie Scheffler. I'm playing in the tournament and need to get to my tee time." Officer. "OK. I understand. We're stopping you because a pedestrian was hit by a shuttle. Please be patient and we'll try our best to get you to your tee time."
Since when is it assault to have someone jump on your vehicle? Their action is attributed as your intention?
Not a police hater, as I have close family that are police officers and I empathize with what they do what how much they do it for. Also, having close family that are police officers, I distrust the very mentality of the police. They give lip service to the need to de-escalate, but also freely admit that they are trained to always escalate above the level of the person they are interacting with. Looks like that's what happened here. Confusion led to ego. Still... How the hell do you jump on someone's slow moving car and then charge them for assaulting you with their car? That seems a blatant misuse of the laws. Borders on lying.I'm not a police hater, but there are definitely some bad eggs. I've only had a few interactions with police, but the ones I've had, they always led with belligerence. But when you pay them pennies, you get what you pay for.
Yah. That's another issue I have with some cops. If they don't feel as though you grovel enough, they all but abuse law to make you pay. That's neither service nor protection.I'm sure the officer said, "he hit me with his car" haha. In fairness though, Scottie could have just ignored the officer and proceeded through the gate. Still shouldn't have escalated that much, but we don't know how courteous he was or not.
I hope there's video of the stop. If the officer jumped on a slow moving car and then charged Scottie for assault, then he should be fired for filing a false report. If by some chance Scottie actually assaulted the officer, he should do time. Otherwise...Scottie is there now and expected to tee off at 1008. Post round interviews should be interesting.
Supposedly Scottie was in a PGA marked vehicle as wellI hope there's video of the stop. If the officer jumped on a slow moving car and then charged Scottie for assault, then he should be fired for filing a false report. If by some chance Scottie actually assaulted the officer, he should do time. Otherwise...
The ESPN reporter got video of them taking Scottie out of the car, handcuffed, and escorting to police car. Nothing mentioned of video beyond that.I hope there's video of the stop. If the officer jumped on a slow moving car and then charged Scottie for assault, then he should be fired for filing a false report. It ought to be for what you pay at 5 guys. I can get a steak and tater for a bit more than what 5 guys charges. All this talk of Pals and Cookout. Groce. Five Guys is far and away the best fast food burger place. Everyone else is competing for a distant second place.
@ me if you want, but you are wrong.
