Nah the HC might’ve just been looking for a scapegoat and been “forced” to make a change somewhere. But also true that maybe Martinez wasn’t getting through to that particular set of DBs and could’ve just been time to move on

He also got fired at UT and Auburn. I’m not sure about OU. Someone made a comment that he’s not the worst DB coach in America and that’s certainly true, but he’s not a GOOD DB coach. Not what a team with NC aspirations should have anyway.

All of this angst over the AP and Coaches poll is silly, IMO. I don't care who jumps us and who does not. It matters little at this point. In fact, it might benefit us if it helps us develop a healthy chip on our shoulder for being under-rated.

I personally like being underrated..good motivational tool.

The Neyland advantage should not be overlooked. We are tough to beat at home with 100k rowdy screaming fans helping on defense. We are a tough match up with the fans behind us.

Just like with South Carolina, a strong rushing attack, defensive pressure, and a rowdy crowd should help UT.

Dobbs just can't catch a break--- killing it this season, but his defense is straight ass. Cardinals secondary is worse than ours for the past few seasons. Convinced our offense could put up minimum 21 on Cardinals secondary today... sheesh.

It doesn’t mean everything. But it means something. Especially when it’s mid season and by your college roommate.

Richt fired a lot of people trying to hang on to his job.

Blaming Martinez for the pass D is like blaming an IRS agent because your taxes are too high. UT has more than enough talent to play a different style of D in the secondary. That decision rests with Banks, not Martinez.

Martinez may or may not be a good coach. But he's not where you should start looking.

I have been a huge advocate to fire him. But I will tell you this, if we end the year in the top half of pass yards allowed, I’ll rethink my very amateur opinion. I still think he has been the reason a lot of clutch big pass plays were given up in the past. But the gameplan for South Carolina, minus that boneheaded special teams play on the fake, was refreshing. We locked down their guy. I’d love it if we could do that to bowers when Georgia comes to town.
