Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Glad you made it back safely! Anyone down there, be safe as well. And please try to show others some compassion and patience, everyone handles stress and anxiety differently.

So many careless drivers acting like absolute fools. Took a bad situation and made it even worse for themselves getting into accidents.
saw five accidents between Valdosta and Atlanta yesterday morning on the way home..........

You’re kidding? What are they considering early round? Making the old man fatigue. Sigh
I just read the headline. They want it to go to at least the 4th or 5th, I guess. Not even sure how many rounds are scheduled, but I'm sure they're shortened rounds. I hope Tyson knocks him out in the first 5 seconds.

What's really sad is he got paid a lot of money to come here and play so poorly, with what appears to be so little effort. I'm curious if he sticks around after this season or portals again. Hope he realizes if he decides to portal again, his tape from this season thus far isn't going to get him another fat check.
I think I will reserve final judgement for a while. He did play awful but really don't think he's loafing or pouting, there would be more scuttlebut. I think he is just really out of shape. Hopefully he gets it fixed.

We're all so happy about that. Wifey told me this morning that places down there have run out of gasoline. That's why I said leave early and keep your tank full. Been there, done that, several times.
I used to say "Here at least we don't have to deal with those hurricanes." Well that's out the window.

WTF.

Judge gives preliminary approval for NCAA settlement reestablishing and greatly expanding NCAA's historically abused enforcement and selective non-enforcement powers

The judge did not say why she changed her mind. NCAA politician and president Baker said he is "delighted." Nothing is final at this point.

Please note that the regulatory portion of this deal is the forward-looking part of the deal. The NCAA has already botched for the entire past decade managment of this issue and the funds to be paid out as a result of the NCAA's massive fail is a given.

Awful news.

10-2 / 9-3 / 8-4....?

Still gotta beat FL, KY, Vandy, and one of GA/AL... which will be hard to do at this point based on Saturday's performance.

Is Vandy's QB better than Nico? Is Vandy's Oline/Dline better than ours? Is Vandy's offense/defense overall better than UT? They weren't afraid to play football against AL... AL took Vandy for granted and once they woke up it was too late.

AL is at home.

This weekend will be key to see where we are headed for the remainder of the season.

Still can't get over how we can be in this position with our Oline depth in year 4...

At work and dont have time to read it, does this relate to our case with the ncaa?

That judge is basically allowing attorneys in a class-action to collectively bargain on behalf of a group of people that haven’t been declared employees and aren’t members of a labor union. I don’t know how the establishment of a governance scheme for college as part of the settlement of a dispute for monetary damages didn’t get laughed out of court.

dude we are all learning. An odd front is different than an even front, where linemen generally are responsible for one gap. Even fronts normally have 4 on line and the defenders try to hold (or sometimes shoot through) their gaps against blocks. Odd front defenders aim to tie up blocks to let LBs clean up. Effective 2-gap defenders can shed blocks and make tackles in either gap.

Weirdly, odd front teams often still play 4 on the line, with a LB playing over or outside of an OT. This player might rush, stunt, drop into coverage, or spy the QB. The combinations are

If I had to guess, UT’s struggles against odd fronts (relatively speaking) has less to do with the front itself and more to do with the extra defender playing the pass. Teams are playing 3 over 2 on both sides, and that leaves just 5 defenders in the box. Given UT’s use of power, defenses normally need to have 2 LBs to prevent a successful run from going to the house. At that point, the math dictates an odd front.
What was giving us problems was that when the Hogs were in an odd tight front (against the inside zone) we weren't blocking well enough on the perimeter to get outside. If we would've they would have been forced to go to an okie (wide) and we could have run our favorite inside zone. If they brought some of those deep safeties up to cover the flat and go man we get them deep. If they go bear front (bring the linebackers up) we hit them with mesh, rubs, or slants.
Bottom line is we have to block better, and blocking is mostly about heart and determination.

Florida really didn't deal with this level of hurricanes on a consistent basis in the past. In my 17 years in the Tampa area, I never had a problem. Now, I wonder how all this will shake out. Will people start leaving the state? Will insurance be so expensive that people just can't live anywhere near the coast? It's going to be a mess for a long time. I'd love to move back to Tampa but now would not be the time.
I hear Bill Gates is planning on buying Tampa anyways.

I say this with empathy: I'd hate, hate, hate to be a property owner in Florida right now--even above and beyond the expected damage from these storms.

If these storms cause a bit of a mass exodus, and prevent people from wanting to live in (or move to) Florida due to the concerns you state above, the property value will tank and lots of poor Florida residents will be stuck. The market there would collapse and lots of people would lose wealth they probably spent a lifetime accumulating.
I hope they don't come here. we need to build a wall.

they (FL) weren't dealing with them because they weren't being "manufactured/modified/manipulated" ... when was the last time a hurricane went from clouds wind and rain in the gulf to all of a sudden forming into a CAT 5? Hurricanes generally form and start out in the Atlantic and move across into the Gulf, picking up steam and force...
Really sad that so many have been killed and are about to be killed ... Next year you won't see any of this, or maybe 1 that starts in the Atlantic. 😑

I would agree with you if he seemed to be winded/tired in the first few games, but he was whipping everyone on the line and dancing in the endzone with every TD... how can a 20yr old college football player get out of shape in two weeks?

Milton wobbled earlier, and it threw the track 30 miles south of T-Bay..as these storms near the west coast of Florida they almost always wobble to the right of center circulation as they get nearer to the coast...they almost never do the opposite.

Every few miles to the south this thing tracks, the better, as it makes the likelihood of a huge storm surge being pushed up into T-Bay at high tide.

I know that sounds mean, but the difference is between badly effecting millions of lives and hundreds of thousands.

The farther this thing tracks south, the winds on the north side of the eye will actually be blowing west. The nightmare scenario for T-Bay has always been a strong hurricane going directly across Pinellas County and the winds pushing a 10-20 wall of water directly into the bay for several hour.

Thanks for prayers, please keep praying for all in the area...adios..🙋‍♂️
They seem to always turn last minute away from the Bay

This will not happen IMO. The appeals will blow it up.
