Recruiting Football Talk VIII

The biggest problem on this team is the OL. They play so inconsistently. And a lot of it is our tackles.

Nico plays like a young, inexperienced QB. Which tracks, because he is a young inexperienced QB.

We're also going to have to play through the bad non-calls. Whether it's them holding our WRs, holding our DL, blocking in the back (which I saw at least one uncalled yesterday); whatever it is, we have to play through it, or find a way to make the refs notice it in a way they can't not call it. The inconsistency in officiating is hurting the game, but no one seems interested in fixing it.

Defense is carrying us right now.

Elarbee needs to figure out the OL woes. That would fix a lot. I really feel he needs his own "Coach Chop" type of assistant to help him out.
I’m so tired of seeing the narrative of this OL being the problem to all of Nico’s problems when in reality it’s neither. Would you rather have this OL or JG’s OL?!?…my point…QB’s before Nico have had so much worse.this OL is manageable compared to what we’ve witnessed over the years…if you know your OL can’t hold a block on passing downs then you need to scheme to your advantage and give Nico the green light to run for a gain or roll away from the pressure buying time which is why this is a obvious coaching problem…Teams are loading the box daring Nico to beat them down field which means blitz/pressure (stopping the run)..scheme up your tight ends on short dump routes or screens and all of this sh**t goes away and everything opens up again like it use to…Arkansas gave the whole sec the blueprint to stopping this offense.props to them for digging up the Tulsa tape..it’s been fun while it lasted but now you’re going to see if JH is the real deal or not earning his paycheck…he needs to get back in the lab and start drawing up plays.

Finally starting to realize if you don't fall in line like a good little trooper, then you're a simp, commoner or a idiot. Or my favorite brainless and don't have enough sense to think or see.
We talking about the poster that accuses everyone else of being condescending? Or just VN in general?

Yeah, I was thinking real-time this is a rule change coming like after the MCB vs. UNC. Should reset the clock as if a dead-ball foul.
the real genius that did NOT happen yesterday was Alabama's receiver should have stepped out of bounds at the one yard line at the end of the game instead of scoring a TD. SC had no timeouts and Alabama could have taken 2 or 3 knees and run the clock out instead of losing the onside kick and give SC a chance to win the game.

I was full doom mode during the game. Absolutely some troubling stuff that needs to be fixed this week. That said, we beat Florida and made some adjustments as we went. Time to celebrate that and sh*t talk the tide. In Heup (and Banks) we trust.
Haha…you were ready for tracking planes. I was almost out for a while. I just can’t.

The two biggest indictments thus far onnthis regime:

1- situation with the OL, lack of development has to be addressed.

the line we saw in OT drive, is line we saw versus NC State, and OK.

Is it effort? Is it talent? Is it scheme? Those are all on the coaches.

2- WR separation.

Thornton and Squirrel are consistently the only open WR's, that can make hand or contested catches. Also, seem to be only 'open' receivers.

The plan this game was so much better. We do better when we distribute the ball. Saw Davis and Notre Dame dude getting involved. Saw Sampson targeted for passes. Even saw Nico rolling left and right.

Offense took a step in that regard. It is evolving.

Meanwhile, if our WR's arent getting separation. Then what're we doing? Doesnt do us any good to have Braylon Staley and Mike Matthews ride the pine.

Where is their development? Get them some touches. Scheme something up. We HAVE to get them involved to break a big TD to best Bama.
WR’s are open. That is not really the problem. I must be watching something different.

Not gonna lie. I fully expect to lose next week. I expect to be frustrated by the refs over calls and non-calls. I expect to be frustrated by our OL again. I expect to be frustrated by Nico making freshman mistakes. Maybe if I go in expecting those things, I won't be quite as upset when they happen.

The truth is, we've all seen the officiating is not going to change. We will get screwed. And Nico is a RS-FR, so making those mistakes are all part of his learning process. So that just leaves the OL. Can it be fixed? I hope so, otherwise, we're going to lose more games than just next week. With all the returning experience, I honestly thought the OL would be a strength this year.

Heupel will scheme some big plays next week and exploit bama’s defense. I don’t really see Bama trying to install a new system simply for this game with a new coaching staff that is already struggling on D. They do run mostly 4-2-5 but don’t run much 2 deep safeties

When Nico has time he puts up 400 yards in the first half, but his inability to do anything now has nothing to do with the OLs protection? OK.

I see everything and I also see it's a battle fans aren't going to win EVER. So now you have a goodnight .
fans won't win it for sure...................it is a fight our AD had to fight.............will he...........if he does, we will not see it.........will be behind closed doors..............it is riduculous

Surprised bama didn’t drop as well. Lingering saban effect
Sneaking past Beamer-the-Steamer on the final play of the game -- after losing to Vandy, you mean? No biggie if you're Bama. We just need to beat Bama.

We know from the first half last year that we can shut down Milroe. But if Bama's OL is allowed to hold every down (as they did with impunity in the second half) Milroe is made into a passing threat. In our first three offensive trips to the redzone last year, we had a mysterious holding call to force us to settle for a FG on one drive and an egregious no-call DPI on another drive that ended in us settling for another FG. We somehow have to overcome that kind of thing, as well as Bama.
