Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Both Bru and Brazzell open on Nico's scramble that resulted in our first holding call...
I think Squirrel was open enough as well...

I see a collapsed pocket and a guy commenting who has no clue what he is talking about other than pointing out receivers open in a collapsed pocket…you try throwing with a wall in front of you and see how it works out

Thanks "Good Time"...

Obviously the pocket wasn't pristine....

The receivers were open before the pocket collapsed

i'm not a Fulmer fan but Fulmer had to coach against some great Florida teams coached by Spurrier. Heupel has not faced such good Florida teams but mediocre FLA teams coached by second rate coaches

Fulmer also had quite a few teams that were miles better than some of those UF teams and still found ways to lose to them.

Well VN, that was a testament to the fortitude of VFLs everywhere!
If any of y’all have sobered up or didn’t stroke out from the scary game or both, know that these Volunteers have won a closely fought debacle of a game.

They have completed the 6th step in their 16 step process:

15-1 🤠

Oh yee of little faith, know that the winner of the game is only required to be ahead when the game is over. Matters not how they get there. We want them to crash all our foes, hopefully that will come soon, but until then a win by one point is good enough.

What about timing routes? Nico has a good enough arm to try it. Snap, one, two, throw.

LSU did it against Ole Piss.
Yeah, there is a bit of trust that has to occur with your WRs to get open and make the play...

I think to an extent, those aren't routes where you can throw back shoulder where only the WR can get it...crossing routes, ins, & curls have a much higher chance of getting picked

Nico's confidence is obviously askew, so him getting picked early in the game doesn't help. I can see the coaches telling him not to force those throws.

I think the coaches are working on finding the best solution, but there's not an obvious one right now due to so many positions/groups having problems

Refs said he stepped out, but i thought it should have been looked at. After replay looked like he didn't step out.
Several people have informed or shown me that he stepped out. See especially posts by @JP_UT_O&W at #53,900 and #53,905. Glad to know it. It wasn't clear to me at the time either, which is why I asked for help.

So we have to just assume we won't ever get a holding call go our way the rest of the season.

Nico has regressed, but the Oline is the main issue, Heard is making too much money for half-ass, inconsistent play, no matter the reason.

This veteran Oline sucks in year 4, Oline coach needs to be gone and replaced. Very disappointed in the fact that we have so much talent on this roster to have to go to OT to beat a bad FL team at home, and yes, we beat ourselves almost every series, but FL also made horrible decisions that caused them to lose.

Play calling last night, and last week, was very bad and very predictable. It's gotten worse as the season has progressed.

Nico looked good against bad competition, but we are seeing a RS Freshman now and for the remainder... he will get better. The Oline MUST get better.

Defense saved our tails and won the game. Boo and others stepped up.

We are in big trouble if Pili is out for extended time or the season. Big trouble.

Absolutely no reason Matthews should not be out there.

We are no where near a playoff team.

We will get hammered by AL this coming weekend and quite possibly will end up 7-5 / 8-4 best scenario. Quite a difference to everyone and the media lauding us and propping us up the first few games of the season.

It is what it is unfortunately. Empty the NIL bank on Oline in the offseason, get two LB's, and we should be good to go next year.

Hoping this staff has not maxed itself out now that folks have figured out how to defend our offense.

Praying we can keep who we have committed until signing day with the amount of potential L's coming our way unless things drastically change.

Vandy and KY are going to be dogfights and AL/GA are just L's...

Are you talking about the pass where the DB reached out and held Nimrod then let go to make him half a step slower and want called for anything?. Which of course was how far away the ball was from Nimrod?
Vs Arky? No idea. Just left a wedding and saw the Q4 with a bunch of drunk rednecks. Just remember vaguely seeing the play.

Vs UF there were 2 or 3.

Not putting full blame on Nico fwiw, just broadly speaking of the overthrows...don't think the WRs or scheme is to blame. Guys are open.
