Recruiting Football Talk VIII

The model Saban used didn't even work for Saban in the end. The paradigm has shifted and I like our captain's philosophy and style. He treats the guys like pros, creates a competitive environment and embraces the fun.
This truth. For all intents and purposes bigtime CFB players are professionals now. The Saban/Napoleon model worked when the players were at the mercy of the coaches and institutions. The portal made the Saban way obsolete.

Haha, that's great.

But in Rocky 2 he says:
"He's all wrong for us baby. I saw you beat that man like I never saw no man get beat before, and the man kept coming after you. We don't need that kind of man in our life."

That's one of my favorite movie quotes.

DeBoer is allowed to have his own way of doing things; his record speaks for itself.

Giving in to the fanbase’s perception of how things ought to be done - Saban’s way - is the first step in the way to an eventual ugly divorce imo.
I really believe that DeBoer had no clue the kind of expectations and scrutiny the Alabama job brings. Saban's manner of dealing with players may no longer work but his way of dealing with the press and public are a necessity at a place like Alabubba.
Saban treated the media with disdain, scolded them and used them to send messages to his team and fans, he never answered any of their questions. He treated the fans like a good owner treats his dog. He put them in their place, ignored them for the most part, and stroked them at a time of his choosing. And just like a well trained dog they loved it.
Deboer is like Mr. Rogers taking over for George S. Patton.
