This truth. For all intents and purposes bigtime CFB players are professionals now. The Saban/Napoleon model worked when the players were at the mercy of the coaches and institutions. The portal made the Saban way obsolete. The model Saban used didn't even work for Saban in the end. The paradigm has shifted and I like our captain's philosophy and style. He treats the guys like pros, creates a competitive environment and embraces the fun.
I really believe that DeBoer had no clue the kind of expectations and scrutiny the Alabama job brings. Saban's manner of dealing with players may no longer work but his way of dealing with the press and public are a necessity at a place like Alabubba.DeBoer is allowed to have his own way of doing things; his record speaks for itself.
Giving in to the fanbase’s perception of how things ought to be done - Saban’s way - is the first step in the way to an eventual ugly divorce imo.
